McLean-based Freddie Mac, a company established by Congress to support homeownership and rental housing, and the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) announce a new financial outreach and education initiative to help FOP members in eight cities improve their financial decision-making skills. The 56,000 FOP members in Albuquerque, Chicago, Columbus, the District of Columbia, Miami, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia and St. Louis will be encouraged to participate in CreditSmart, Freddie Mac's signature instructor-led financial literacy workshops.

The Freddie Mac Foundation of McLean has donated a $1.5 million grant to Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW). This award is the largest grant ever received in the 120-year history of BGCGW, nearly doubling the amount of monetary support given by the Freddie Mac Foundation to BGCGW in the past two years. The grant will help BGCGW build and expand several programs including: the Education Initiative, a program used to provide skill-building and learning activities to over 1,000 D.C. youth; Camp Brown, BGCGW's overnight summer camp which houses 1,000 youth throughout the summer; and BGCGW's Come on Home Alumni Campaign.

McLean-based Booz Allen Hamilton has been awarded a 10-year indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity contract from the U.S. Army’s Communications Electronics Life Cycle Management Command under the U.S. Army's Strategic Services Sourcing program. With a total program funding ceiling value of $19.25 billion over a period of 10 years, Booz Allen is one of seven prime contractors to be selected to provide support.

McLean-based American Women in Radio and Television (AWRT)'s 2006 National Board of Directors were officially installed on March 10. Chickie Bucco, president of Katz Direct Marketing of Katz Media Group in New York city will serve as president. Vice president is Mary Bennett of EVP/National Marketing, Radio Advertising Bureau in Detroit and New York city. Treasurer is Sylvia Strobel, president and GM of Pennsylvania Public Television in Hershey, Pa., and treasurer-elect is Valerie Blackburn, director of business operations, at Susquehanna Radio Corp. in San Francisco.

The McLean-based immixGroup Inc. was selected by CA, one of the world's largest IT management software companies, to provide contract management and compliance monitoring services for its General Services Administration multiple award schedule contract, as well as related blanket purchase agreements with organizations such as the U.S. Army.

Chalk Inc. has been named exclusive eLearning solution provider for Digital Media Broadcast Corporation (DMBC). Chalk Inc. announced a three year strategic alliance with DMBC, a Virginia-based provider of niche digital broadcasts over a dedicated "Virtual Private Network". Whereby Chalk will become the exclusive provider of eLearning software, services and content to DMBC's clients.

Merrifield-based independent public broadcaster MHz Networks has launched Worldview, an internationally diverse, 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week program stream for public television stations. The new stream aims to attract globally aware viewers with a range of international programming blocks — world news, foreign affairs, international mysteries, world music, sports and foreign films — all in English or subtitled. The evening world news block features newscasts from Taiwan, India, Japan, France and Germany, with Bolivian and Russian news being added in March and pan-African news arriving by June. The World Music block features "Strictly Global," with videos from all over the world. The Emmy Award-winning "MHz Presents" features artists from all genres of music. Both "Strictly Global" and "MHz Presents" are MHz original productions. The international mystery block features iconic detectives from all over the world.

ImmixTechnology Inc., a McLean-based government technology reseller, and WebEx Communications Inc., a California-based provider of on-demand Web collaboration applications, have announced a partnership to help federal, state and local government organizations embrace the productivity gains, cost saving and information sharing benefits of Web collaboration.

McLean-based Communiqué Conferencing Inc., audio and Web conferencing service provider, was named "Best Webinar Solution" by Elearning! Magazine. Elearning! readers and industry professionals nominated and cast ballots for the best e-learning solution providers across nine product categories.

Michael Briglia has been named vice president of commercial banking at First Horizon Bank's Northern Virginia-based commercial banking team. Briglia will operate from the mid-Atlantic regional headquarters in Tyson's Corner. He brings 15 years of experience in business development to the team. His responsibilities will include providing commercial lending products and services including commercial deposit and treasury management services.

Talbots Kids, located at Tysons Corner in McLean, honored manager Jessica Smith at a recent awards dinner naming her store the 2005 Kids Store of the Year. The award, which recognizes outstanding performance, was one of the highest honors presented at the banquet. Smith and her staff are noted for achieving strong sales performance and the highest standards of customer service.

JP Brehony Homes/Commonwealth Housing Corporation of Vienna has been chosen as the Custom Builder of the Year by the Custom Builders Council of the Northern Virginia Building Industry Association. JP Brehony has been in business since 1991 and primarily builds upper-end, single-family custom homes in and around the town of Vienna.

Archisha Mehan has joined Cardinal Bank as assistant vice president in the Small Business Division. She will be responsible for business development in the Fairfax County market. Mehan is a graduate of the University of Bombay with a bachelors of arts in financial accounting and a masters from the University of Stirling, U.K.

HBL of Tysons, a luxury and sports car dealer, has hired the Bomstein Agency to provide advertising services for its dealership group. The agency's account services, creative and media departments will work to manage all aspects of HBL's advertising in Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Children’s Health Protection recognized The Ambulatory Pediatric Association (APA) in McLean as one of 14 organizations to receive a 2006 Children’s Environmental Health Excellence Award. Specifically, the EPA award is a tribute to the work of APA past-president Dr. Ellen Crain in creating the first-ever pediatric environment fellowships in the United States. The awards ceremony was held April 20 at the Army and Navy Club in Washington D.C., where Dr. Crain received the award on behalf of the APA.
