Randy Julian, the president of Julian Tours, will serve as treasurer on the 2005 CrossSphere Board of Directors. CrossSphere, formerly the National Tour Association, is the premier international packaged travel association made up of nearly 4,000 members from around the world. Julian founded Julian Tours with his brother in 1980. The company arranges Washington D.C. tours for visiting groups and organizes trip throughout the United States, Canada and elsewhere for schools and other groups based in the area. Julian’s involvement with CrossSphere began when his company became a tour operator member in 1982.

<lst>Renata Varmall, chairman and CEO of The Varmall Group (TVG), gave a half-day seminar to non-profit organizations that receive over 50 percent of their operating revenue from grants. The purpose of the seminar was to help the organizations comply with reporting requirements of their grantors, and to better manage their financial systems so that they could efficiently find and receive additional grant opportunities.

McEnearney Associates, Inc., a real estate firm serving the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area, announced that Sean McEnearney, corporate services representative, was named to the Board of Directors of the Alexandria (Va.) Chamber of Commerce. An active community leader, McEnearney’s appointment follows his contribution to the year-long “Leadership Alexandria” program, a program of the Alexandria Chamber of Commerce where he gained detailed knowledge the workings of the city’s government.

FasTracKids has opened an educational enrichment academy in Alexandria. FasTracKids is an education system that is aimed at helping children develop gifts and talents at an early age. Once a 3-7 year old is enrolled, the child attends four 90-minute sessions a month for two years. Certified teachers cover 12 subject areas, including biology, literature, economics, earth science and mathematics. The FasTracKids Learning System features high-tech interactive touch-screen technology, video instruction and classroom activities that augment curriculum. Virginia Commerce Bank (VCB) is pleased to announce the opening of its Del Ray branch, located at 2401 Mount Vernon Ave. The new branch, which is the sixteenth overall for VCB, opened for business on Jan. 27, 2005.

The Alexandria Hyundai has been named to the Hyundai Board of Excellence, a national network of distinguished dealers. This is the third year the dealership has received the award. Hyundai Motor America has honored its top dealers through the Board of Excellence since 1998. Only 81 out of more than 660 dealerships received the recognition this year.

Alexandria Business and Professional Women, working to achieve equity for women in the professional workplace, meets on the second Tuesday of the month from September to May at 7 p.m., at the Eisenhower Ave. Holiday Inn.

Employment Club. The Laurie Mitchell Employment Center hosts "The Job Club" every Monday from 4:30-5:30 p.m. The group is for those with mental illness and others who need support in their job search. The center is located at 8794 S. Sacramento Drive.
