Holiday Schedule

Town of Herndon offices will be closed Monday, Jan. 17, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Herndon Municipal Center/Town Hall/Neighborhood Resource Center will also be closed.

The hours for the Herndon Community Center are 6 a.m.-10 p.m. and the hours for the Herndon Centennial Golf Course are 8 a.m.-dark.

Trash that is normally collected on Monday will be picked up Tuesday, Jan. 18. Do not place trash cans at the curb more than 24 hours prior to the scheduled collection.

Chamber January Meetings

Chairman's Luncheon: Tuesday, Jan. 18, 11:30 a.m., at Hyatt Dulles. Chairman's Luncheon and annual membership meeting and installation of officers for 2005.

Networking Breakfast in Chantilly: Thursday, Jan. 27, 8 a.m., Holiday Inn Select-Dulles Expo Center. Speaker Thomas V. 'The Barker of Seville'

The Town of Herndon Parks and Recreation Department will present the Blue Sky Puppet Theatre as they perform "The Barker of Seville" on Monday, Jan. 17 at the Phoenix Worldgate Movie Theatre in Herndon.

Featuring nine dog puppets and two larger-than-life costumed characters, "The Barker of Seville" is an original musical comedy about a day in the life of an aspiring opera singer.

This performance is geared for preschoolers and young children. The show begins at 10:30 a.m. Admission is $4 in advance; $5 at the door. To order tickets, call 703-435-6868 or purchase them at the Herndon Community Center located at 814 Ferndale Avenue.

Kiddie Open Gym at Center

Toddlers can enjoy tumbling, big wheel days, kiddie basketball and some pool time at the Herndon Community Center during Kiddie Open Gym.

Kiddie Gym is open every Tuesday and Thursday from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. starting Jan. 4 to Feb. 24 in the Herndon Community Center Gym. Fee is $4 per child per day and discounted passes are available. An adult must accompany children.

Teen After School Cinema

Teens ages 12 to 17 are invited to the Herndon Community Center for an afternoon of refreshments and a movie — all free.

Teen Cinema will be held every second and fourth Thursday at 2:30 p.m. during January, February and March.

All movies are rated PG or PG-13.

Herndon Festival Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for the Herndon Festival planning and entertainment committees. Interested members of the community and civic groups from throughout the town are invited to assist the Herndon Parks and Recreation Department in the planning and execution of the 25th annual Herndon Festival to be held June 2-5, 2005.

Volunteers are also needed to serve on the entertainment subcommittee, which will meet once or twice to consider possible performers and make suggestions to the festival executive committee.
