Three Men Robbed at Gun Point
<bt>Three occurrences of men being robbed at gun point occurred this week in the same area. Police are looking into the possibility that this robbery is related to others that occurred near the Franconia-Springfield Metro Station since Sept. 21.
The first incident occurred on Monday, Oct. 25, at 9:50 p.m., when a 41-year-old man and his wife were walking on a path that connects Rockleigh Way and Crestleigh Way. They were approached by a man with a gun. The wife ran to a nearby location to call police, and her husband remained behind with the suspect. The suspect had grabbed the man by the jacket, but the victim dropped his belongings, slipped out of his jacket, and he too, ran home. The items the victim dropped during the robbery were gone upon police arrival.
This suspect is described as white, in his 20s, standing 5-feet-11-inches tall, weighing 170 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a dark-colored pea coat and knit, multi-colored hat and tan-colored pants.
The second incident occurred shortly after, at around 10 p.m. the same evening. In this case, a 38-year-old man was approached from behind by a man with a gun who told him to stop. The victim was walking east on Crestleigh Way near Crestleigh Circle in the Kingstowne area. The suspect told the victim to walk to a path in the 6500 block of Brookleigh Way. The robber demanded the victim’s wallet and briefcase. Two people walking dogs came upon the robbery, and the suspect fled on foot heading south behind the townhouses. The suspect is described as black, in his 20s, about 5-feet-8-inches tall and 160 pounds. He was wearing a dark down jacket, baggy, dark pants, a scarf and hat.
Later that evening, at 11:30 p.m., a 34-year-old, Springfield area man was in the 6300 block of Hillary Court in the Kingstowne area when a man with a gun grabbed his arm and walked him to the back of the house and demanded the victim’s wallet. The suspect is described as black, in his 20s, about 5-feet-8-inches tall and 170 pounds. He wore cornrows, a white long-sleeved sweatshirt and dark-colored pants.
Yet, another man was robbed earlier that week not too far away. A 23-year-old man from the Kingstowne area was walking from the Franconia-Springfield metro station at 10:30 p.m., Oct. 21, when he was robbed at gun point on Barry Road. The victim was approached by a man who displayed a gun and demanded money. The suspect fled the area on foot with the victim’s backpack. The robbery happened in the 7100 block of Barry Road. The victim was not injured. The suspect is described as black, in his 20s, about 5-feet-8-inches tall and 135 pounds. He was wearing gray or tan sweatshirt and baggy blue jeans.
<sh>Woman Escapes from Attack
<bt>Around 1:10 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 25, a 22-year-old Huntington area woman was walking home from work when a man began to follow her. She started to walk toward an apartment building in the 6000 block of Richmond Highway when the man began to talk to her in Spanish. They had a brief conversation in Spanish as she tried to discourage his interest. He appeared to walk away from her, but then turned around, grabbed her around the waist and tried to lift her off the ground and carry her toward Richmond Highway. He threw her to the ground and got on top of her. She screamed for help, and a man from a balcony above them called down to ask if she needed help. The suspect then punched the woman and fled toward the Days Inn Motel. The woman was not injured.
The suspect is described as Hispanic, around 26 years old, 5-feet-2-inches tall and 140 pounds. He has black hair and brown eyes. He was clean shaven with straight, medium length hair. He was wearing a white T-shirt, blue jeans with white patches, white head wrap and boots.
<sh>Woodlawn Area Man Arrested
<bt>On Oct. 21, about 2 a.m., officers were called to the 8400 block of Hallie Rose Street in the Woodlawn area. An 18-year-old woman had reported that someone was trying to break into her house. Responding officers found a man, armed with a knife, inside the house fighting with the woman and her boyfriend, a 21-year-old Washington, D.C. man.
Investigation revealed the suspect, Dwight B. Jenkins, of 5508 Sacramento Mews Place, broke into his former girlfriend’s house and armed himself with a knife. Jenkins then broke into the bedroom where he threatened to kill the pair during a struggle. Officers arrived, disarmed Jenkins and took him into custody. No one was injured. It was also learned that Jenkins had been calling the victim on the telephone and threatening her.
Jenkins was charged with two counts of attempted murder, burglary with intent to commit murder, destruction of private property and making threatening telephone calls. He was held at the Adult Detention Center without bond.
