Opinion: ‘Somebody Else’ Didn’t Come

Starting a small business comes with some amount of risk. Even the most diligent and talented owner faces challenges that could ground a business before it takes off. I can speak to that from experience. I started my own business 20 ago. My law firm started with me and my partner and now we provide approximately 20 jobs in Virginia. I am no Steve Jobs or Mark Zuckerberg, but I am proud of what I have been able to do.

Alexandria: Changing Face of Family-Friendly Dining

Quick: Think of a traditionally “kid-friendly” restaurant. It’s likely that one particular genre comes to mind: A loud establishment teeming with chaos, impatient servers, and a small children’s menu offering the usual fare for your little ones. But the face of “family-friendly” dining is changing, and some of the restaurants leading the way in Alexandria may surprise you.

Sign up now, only 100 participants will be registered.

Ever wanted to compete in a triathlon, but were afraid to commit for fear of not being experienced enough? Now is the time to rev up one’s training because “Tri to Listen” — a June 3 triathlon is right around the corner — literally. The race will take place in Poolesville — a 20-minute drive from Potomac. The triathlon, “powered by Autism Speaks” is an opportunity for both novice and veteran tri-athletes to compete in a near-by event that offers a small field, a pool swim (versus a river, lake or bay swim), and beautiful scenery.

Commentary: A Solution To End Struggle over Brickyard Road Site?

As of this week, the Board of Education has spent in excess of $200,000 defending their actions in leasing the Brickyard Road school site to Montgomery County so the county can lease the same 20-acre site to MSI at $1,500 a year for 10 years. Not much of a return for the cost of keeping an unwise decision in place. With this continuing financial bleed on taxpayers in mind and in the hopes of finding reasonable solutions and rectifying past mistakes, the plaintiffs in the case have made the Board of Education a formal proposal offering to end their litigation if a few simple conditions are met.
