Spelling Bee Champion
On Feb. 11, Churchill Road crowned a new spelling bee champion. After 12 rounds among 20 finalists, 6th grader Matthew Cox took first place by correctly spelling the word “salubrious.” He will go on to represent CRS at the county bee on March 12 at Lanier Middle School. Sixth graders Soumya Peri and Eric Gan placed second and third, respectively.

Miss America to Promote STEM
At a pre-Inauguration event Sunday, Jan. 20, newly crowned Miss America 2013 Mallory Hagan addressed a large audience gathered at the FAA for a “Federal Open House and Program Mentoring and Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).” She spoke passionately about girls and STEM education, which along with her personal issue will be the chief cause during her reign.

Brief: Later School Start Times in Potomac
The Montgomery County Board of Education voted to change school starting and ending times for the public schools effective for the 2015-2016 school year — moving middle and high school start times 20 minutes later and elementary school start times 10 minutes later.
