INDECENT EXPOSURE, 5500 block of Sequoia Farms Drive, July 19, 6:40 p.m. Two girls, ages 12 and 15, were walking at approximately 8:20 in the morning when they saw a man sitting in a car. The man was exposing himself. BURGLARY, 5000 block of Oakcrest Drive, July 12, 5:30 p.m. A resident reported someone entered the home and stole several items to include jewelry. Forced entry was made through a rear door.
Empty Bowls Event to Benefit Hunger Relief
The Giving Circle of HOPE will host its fifth annual "Empty Bowls," a benefit supper for hunger relief, on Friday, April 13, from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Floris United Methodist Church, 13600 Frying Pan Road, Herndon. All proceeds will go directly to Food for Others, the largest distributor of free food to needy people in Northern Virginia.
Author Inspires Potomac Students To Write
Laura Krauss Melmed describes journey from idea to publication.
Students at Beverly Farms Elementary School learned about the writing process and how a book gets published from children’s book author Laura Krauss Melmed on Nov. 5 and 6. Melmed, who came to the school to read from her first picture book called “The Rainbabies,” is an award-winning author of 20 picture books including lyrical bedtime stories, original tales of magic, holiday books, and nonfiction books about cities and states.
22 Years in Prison For Child’s Death
A Fair Lakes woman has been sentenced to more than 22 years in prison for murdering an 11-month-old boy in Vienna, nearly three years ago. She is Carol Nadine Lutsky, 22, of Summit Manor Court.

Earth Day with Raptors
Earth Day with Raptors In commemoration of Earth Day, on April 20, at the Belle Haven parking lot area, the Friends of Dyke Marsh and the U.S. National Park Service co-sponsored an information and education session about raptors (birds of prey) that frequent the Mount Vernon parkway region. The live raptors available for up close viewing were a screech owl and a species of falcon. In addition to the live raptor presentations handouts for children and adults were available.

At the Instrument Petting Zoo
The door of T.C. Williams High School opened Sunday, May 20 for the Alexandria Symphony Orchestra’s annual Children’s Arts Festival, Cosmic Quest. The Blackbox Theatre was transformed into an instrument petting zoo. The cafeteria offered art stations, reading centers, yoga and hand bell demonstrations.
