Letter: Much Still To Be Done
The Rising Hope Mission request for school supplies and backpacks (August 9, 2012) was responded to by a total of 25 different persons, churches and organizations. We ultimately were able to serve 377 children who attend 20 schools in this area, from ages 5 years to 19 years old.

The point is that inborn talent is not the real issue for TJHS-level success. Nor is there any educational program magic pill that will solve this. The key is student long-term personal commitment to scholastic achievement and hard work—(the old "20 percent inspiration, 80 percent perspiration" adage).

With air temperatures at 48 degrees, and water temperature at 36 degrees, some 204 jumpers took part in the ninth annual Virginia Polar Dip on Saturday, Feb. 6 at Lake Anne Plaza in Reston, raising $95,000 for the Camp Sunshine charity.
