History of African American Spirituals to Be Studied
A seven-session course on the history of African American spirituals and their impact on Christianity worldwide will begin Sunday, Feb. 3, at 9:30 a.m. at the United Christian Parish, 11508 North Shore Drive, Reston. All are welcome.

Former Teacher Convicted of Child Porn Charges
A former special-education teacher at Poplar Tree Elementary has been convicted in federal court of two child-pornography charges.
Fenn Convicted of Child Porn Charges
A former special-education teacher at Poplar Tree Elementary has been convicted in federal court of two, child-pornography charges. He is Robert C. Fenn, 27, of Emerald Chase Drive in Oak Hill.

Hammond Middle Schools 1, 2 and 3 started off the new school year with 454, 453 and 493, respectively. Polk Elementary has enrolled 642 students, and 586 students attend Patrick Henry. Remember to keep an eye out for the children as they walk to school; although some of the kids ride buses, many of our neighbors walk or ride their bikes to school, and they are often accompanied by parents and siblings.

The Marshall Road Elementary School (MRES) PTA is conducting its annual auction online this year. The auction period runs from March 10 through March 22.
Brief: Preserving Arlington’s Past
The county’s History Task Force has made its final recommendations to the county manager for how to preserve Arlington’s history online. Using an online survey, they garneted 450 responses, to determine how to make archival information available to residents online in the most effective way.
