Top 100: Hummer Brothers Washington-Lee, Basketball, 1963 and 1966
Big Men siblings led `Little Generals' to prominence in 1960s.
In the early 1960's, the Washington-Lee High boys basketball team was a Virginia state power, thanks in large part to 6-foot-6 inch pivot player Ed Hummer. Hummer, a consistent scorer, rebounder and game-changer on defense, was the linchpin player who fueled the Generals to consecutive state 1A titles in both the 1961-62 and 62-63 basketball seasons.
Centreville Snapshot: 20 Years
Virginia Bagel, at 5621 Stone Road, Centreville, is celebrating 20 years of business. Customers commemorated the store’s anniversary by presenting owners Aziz and Karim Afzal (at right) with a photograph of the restaurant that was signed by many of the patrons. Virginia Bagel has participated in the Centreville community not just as a restaurant, but also by supporting Westfield High School.

Train Station Open House
The Vienna Train Station, on Dominion Road along the W&OD trail, will be open to the public Saturday, Feb. 15, from 1-5 p.m. The open house is hosted by the Northern Virginia Model Railroaders and boasts a realistically depicted model railroad that existed in North Carolina in the 1950s. The Optimist Club Honors Students
“How do you let your friends know their value?” was essay topic.
The Optimist Club of Greater Vienna awarded three local high school students cash prizes for their winning essays produced for the Optimists International competition, “How do you let your friends know their value?” The presentation took place Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Optimists’ semi-monthly meeting.
Outrageously Funny and Deadly Serious
Unquiet Theatre brings the edgy, bold "Some Girls" to Workhouse.
The Workhouse continues to be a "go-to" incubator venue for new theater companies in Northern Virginia. Next up is Unquiet Theater Company and its production of Neil LaBute's "Some Girls." LaBute is a film director and screenwriter as well as a playwright. The Workhouse marketing material described LaBute as "American theater's great agent provocateur" and the show is " by turns outrageously funny and deadly serious."
