I am writing to thank the Harvey family for everything they've done in the 20 years or so that we've lived in the Fort Hunt area, fully aware that they had done the same things for years before we arrived. The service provided at Hollin Hall Automotive has been fantastic over the years, and the contributions the Harvey family has made to the local Little League and other organizations have helped make this a great community. When we moved to this area, the Hollin Hall shopping center looked a bit drab, but then we went through the doors and met the people at Village Hardware, Safeway, Via Veneto, the Variety Store, etc., and we learned to love the place. Village Hardware, in particular, has made major contributions to local organizations; I have personally spread much of the free Turfus they have provided to the Ft. Hunt Little League.

Boating Safety Patrols Begin Soon

On Saturday, May 26, firefighters from Fire and Rescue Station 20, Gunston, will begin safety patrol duties in Fireboat 420 on the Potomac River and Mason Neck Area. The patrols will continue through the month of September.

The Vienna Business Association [VBA] faced off with challenger Vienna Business Networking International [BNI] on June 23 in a closely-contested softball game at Southside Field. Family and colleagues cheered on their players and BNI edged out VBA for a 20-18 win. The match, bringing in players that belong to either of the two professional business clubs or serving double-duty in both clubs (not counting a few ringers), was a friendly competition supported by a barbeque buffet catered by Red, White and Blue, and a bounce-house to keep the children entertained.

The Fairfax County Police Department is looking for vehicles in working condition that people no longer want or need and would be willing to donate. They could help their public safety community and receive a tax deduction at the same time. Every year, the department uses about 20 cars to help train and prepare officers for the rigors of police work. Donated cars could be used as a faux suspect’s get-away car, helping officers with their precision pursuit driving techniques. Later, when the car is no longer in driving condition, it will be cut up (for training on how to cut into crashed cars), blown up (providing training for Explosive Ordinance officers) or shot (used as a prop in an active-shooter scenario).

Week in Reston

Police are investigating a sexual assault that occurred Tuesday, Feb. 26. Around 11:20 p.m. a 32-year-old woman was walking from Pinecrest Road through the Laurel Glade apartments when she reported a man grabbed her from behind and displayed a weapon. She was pulled into a van where a second man was waiting. The van was driven to Green Range Drive near Emerald Heights Court, where the victim was sexually assaulted and then released.
