Thornton Wilder’s “The Matchmaker” at O’Connell
The drama students at Bishop D.J. O’Connell are far into rehearsals and set design for the upcoming performances of “The Matchmaker.” The play opens on Friday, April 20 at 7:30 p.m. Additional shows will be held on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday afternoon. Elizabeth Milam directs the play.
Arlington Brief: From Arlington to the White House
A march for immigrant families and an end to deportations will leave from 2100 Clarendon Blvd. on Friday, Nov. 20 at 8:30 a.m. to arrive at the White House by 11:30 a.m.
Citizen of the Year
Barry Perlis is the Potomac Chamber of Commerce’s Citizen of the Year. For the past 20 years, he has worked and continues to serve as a volunteer at the Manor Care Nursing Home where he fills the role of chaplain.

Old Town Civic Association President Yvonne Weight Callahan presents Alexandria City Archaeologist Dr. Fran Bromberg (center) a check for $4,000 on July 20 to help conserve the 18th century ship remains excavated at 220 South Union Street. Arlington Snapshot: Bike Rodeo
The Woman's Club of Arlington held a Bike Rodeo Aug. 20 after a 30-plus year break in what used to be an annual event sponsored by the club. Bike Arlington and Phoenix Bikes, provided the cone courses and, the expertise. The four youngsters, ages 3 -5 1/2 years had fun following the Bike Arlington volunteer.

Step into a Norman Rockwell painting on Aug. 20 as Historic Vienna, Inc. hosts a country fair with a myriad of activities, at no charge, for families. The debut “Vienna’s Country Fair” takes over the Freeman House end of the Vienna Town Green from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 20. HVI refers to the fair as a “return to a simpler time.”
Montgomery County Council Enacts “Ban the Box” Bill
Last week, the Montgomery County Council unanimously enacted Bill 35-20, Human Rights and Civil Liberties - Fair Criminal Record Screening Standards – Amendments, which aims to help prevent workplace discrimination by prohibiting background checks prior to the extension of a conditional offer of employment and preventing inquiries into certain types of arrests and convictions.
