At the Aldersgate United Methodist Church, author Meryl Comer discussed her book, "Slow Dancing with a Stranger: Lost and Found in the Age of Alzheimer's," a personal memoir, recounting her last 20 years as a caregiver, first for her husband and now for her mother, both with Alzheimer's disease. Following her June 9 presentation, she conducted a Town Hall-type meeting, answering questions and discussing issues and problems she encountered.

With this week’s closing of construction financing for The Springs Apartments at 555 N. Thomas St., Arlington, the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) has scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony for March 11, 1-2:20 p.m., and completion will be in fall 2016.

Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana Comes to McLean

One of the nation’s premier flamenco and Spanish dance companies, New York’s Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, will perform “The Soul of Flamenco” for a single night at The Alden in McLean. The show will be presented at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1. Tickets are $30, $20 for McLean tax district residents. The Alden is housed in the McLean Community Center, which is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue.

Del. Filler-Corn Passes Legislation for Military Spouses

House Bill 1247, aimed at reducing burdensome red tape for military spouses, has passed the House of Delegates and Senate with unanimous bipartisan support and now awaits signature from the Governor. Sponsored by Del. Eileen Filler-Corn (D-41) and supported by the Administration, HB 1247 would require the Department of Professional and Occupational Regulation to expedite the review process for temporary licenses from 30 to 20 days for military spouses that already hold the equivalent license in another state.

Great Falls: House Fire Early Sunday Morning Completely Destroys Home

While driving down Route 7 in the early hours of Sunday morning, a passerby noticed flames billowing out from a two-story house at 1065 Northfalls Court in Great Falls. This person called 9-1-1 and rushed to knock on the door of the house across the street to warn neighbors.
