Doud Receives Lifetime Achievement Award
Richard V. Doud, IOM, president of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce, was presented the "Lifetime Achievement Award" by the Virginia Association of Chamber of Commerce Executives at the Virginia Chamber's 90th Anniversary Celebration & Legislative Awards Dinner held on May 15 in Arlington at the Ritz Carlton - Pentagon City.

The Journey of Hope and Virginians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty hosted an event on Friday, June 29 in recognition of the 40th anniversary of Furman v. Georgia, a Supreme Court case that abolished capital punishment in every U.S. state. The decision was overturned by Gregg v. Georgia four years later.
Obituary: Elizabeth Hyland, 84, of Reston, Dies
Elizabeth Hyland, 84, an author who wrote extensively about schizophrenia and was a past president of the Writers of Chantilly literary organization, died April 22 at Cameron Glen nursing home in Reston. She had cancer.
