Balanced Representation
To the Editor: With the national elections in the spotlight, I want to draw your attention to our local Alexandria City Council race. On Nov. 6, the front of the ballot will hold the Federal races and constitutional amendments, while the back of the ballot will hold our Local Alexandria races. This will be the first time our local election will be held on the same day as the presidential race. This is an important election both nationally and locally in Alexandria.

The Montgomery County Board of Elections encourages residents to become familiar with the new, paper-based, digital image scan voting system prior to arriving for the Presidential Primary Election, Tuesday, April 26, or during Early Voting, April 14 - 21. Alexandria: Police Activity Briefs
The Alexandria Police Department is investigating a "shots fired" call in the 700 block of N. Fayette Street in the early morning hours of Tuesday, May 5. No one was injured.
Sallie Leah Conley Scherrer
Sallie Leah Conley Scherrer died March 15, 2014. She resided at 207 N. Pitt St. and at the Alexandria House from 2000 until 2009. Sallie is survived by her husband of 65 years, Victor, son Huel of Apple Valley, Minn. and daughter Marla Merrick of Jonesborough, Tenn., six grandchildren and one great grandson.

Fort Hunt Flag Football for High School Players
The flag football program for kids 13 years and younger is now joined by a high school 7-vs-7 non-contact league for kids 14-to-18 years of age.
