Gadsby’s Tavern Museum Society Celebrates 20 Years
The members of Gadsby’s Tavern Museum Society hosted an ice cream social on June 24 in the assembly room at the tavern museum before adjourning to the ballroom for the annual meeting and election of new board members.
MPO Christopher “Chris” Shaver Receives Respect for Law Award
The Vienna Optimist Club held their annual banquet to honor the 2013 Charles A. Robinson Respect for Law Enforcement Award recipients Thursday, June 20 at the Marco Polo Restaurant in Vienna. MPO Christopher “Chris” Shaver was chosen as the Town of Vienna Police Department’s Optimist Club award winner. This award is given annually to one Vienna Police officer and one Fairfax County Police officer after having been nominated by their respective commanders.
Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration in McLean Features Civil Rights Leader Andrew Young
In observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, the Alden at the McLean Community Center is presenting Ambassador Andrew Young: “A Continuing Legacy,” at 8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17. Young, whose efforts have served and shaped the country for more than 50 years, will share personal memories of Dr. King and his years in the Civil Rights movement. Tickets are $20, $10 for MCC district residents. The Alden is located at 1234 Ingleside Avenue, inside the McLean Community Center.
Woman’s Club, Lemon Road School Reward Children for Summer Reading
On Friday, Sept. 14, at McLean’s Lemon Road Elementary School, the Woman’s Club of McLean hosted an awards party with pizza and ice cream for students in the school’s summer reading program. The club presented a $20 gift certificate for books to three of the children, selected by lot, one from first and second grade, one from third and fourth grade and one from fifth and sixth grade, and every student in the program got a “goody bag” of school supplies.
Mountain View Teacher Hoffman Is Honored
Mountain View High math teacher Anne Hoffman received the Educator of the Year award Saturday from the Dulles Regional Chamber of Commerce. She was honored during the opening ceremonies of the Oct. 20 Centreville Day celebration in Centreville’s Historic District.
