Fairfax County reports nearly 160 domestic violence arrests are made each month in the county. To bring more attention to this issue and in light of October being declared Domestic Violence Awareness month in Fairfax County, supervisor John Cook (R-Braddock) hosted his third annual Stop Domestic Violence Community Awareness Event on Oct. 15 at Chuy’s restaurant in Fairfax.

Chair of the commission’s Independent Oversight and Investigations subcommittee Jack Johnson presented that group’s final recommendations to the full commission on Oct. 8.
Burke: Funeral Held for Lake Braddock Teenager
A funeral service for 16-year-old Brenda Soto of Burke was held Friday April 29 at Fairfax Memorial Funeral Home. Soto was a student at Lake Braddock Secondary School, where she was found unresponsive in a bathroom just before 6 p.m. on April 20. The Office of the Medical Examiner hasn’t released the cause and manner of her death.

Fairfax County Police have charged Jessica R. Deneal-Whalen, 27, of Alexandria with second-degree murder of 51-year-old Raymond A. White, of no fixed address.
Volunteers Clean Up Old Colchester Road
Ten volunteers offered up their Saturday morning to clean up Old Colchester Road in Lorton. The team, which included members of the Mason Neck Lions Club and Civic Association, Del. Dave Albo (R-42) and his son, collected 14 bags of litter, a tire and other assorted trash, according to environmentalist Joe Chudzik of Mason Neck.
Burke Man Sentenced to 115 Years for Armed Robberies
On April 14, Burke resident Larry Pyos, 35, received a sentence of 115 years in prison for multiple armed robberies charges involving Fairfax County and Falls Church businesses. The announcement came from U.S. Attorney Dana Boente’s office.
