The first annual 5K Ice Cream Race will be held Saturday, June 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Bull Run Regional Park in Centreville. The event includes a chocolate syrup water slide, a whipped cream foam machine, a cherry juice pit, and limber limbo.

Learning About Vegan Cooking
Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton offers a variety of culinary classes.
Chef Kathleen Linton, 52, of Lorton teaches culinary arts classes at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton—everything from “Cajun-Louisiana Secrets” to “Cooking with Beers” to “Catch the Burger Craze.” Last Saturday, the specialist in Southern and Thai cuisine held a one-day workshop on vegan cooking. The cost was $65/Workhouse member; $75/nonmember, and $25 for the cost of food. For those who aren’t familiar with vegan, Linton explains: “Nothing with a mother. No milk, no dairy, no eggs, no meats and no cheese.”

Vienna Enjoys Summer on the Green

The Asian Grill restaurant on Rolling Road in Springfield is celebrating the Chinese New Year now through March 8 with fresh, traditional Chinese dishes in an updated menu that are sure to wow the crowd. Owned by Darrin Ho and his wife Jenny, the restaurant with a staff of seven in the West Springfield Shopping Center is offering a Chinese New Year feast for $65.95 per person.
Lake Braddock Gym Named After Robert Carson

In a basketball halftime ceremony that included family and School Board member Ilryong Moon, the Lake Braddock Secondary School gym was rededicated in honor of Robert Carson, age 83, of Springfield who was the school's first Director of Student Activities from 1973 to 1988.

Fairfax County Schools Superintendent Karen Garza, Ph.D., held a Listening Tour on Saturday, Dec. 7, at Cooper Middle School in McLean where more than 100 residents of the Dranesville District shared their concerns about local schools. The meeting, which was attended by local teachers, principals and parents, included School Board Rep. Janie Strauss (Dranesville).
