Arlington’s Week in Coronavirus
DAY OF MOURNING: Arlington County will join other officials and faith leaders across the country for the day of mourning. The County will hold a moment of silence and lower the County flag at the government building to remember the 109 Arlingtonians — and the more than 100,000 people nationwide (101,711 as of Saturday, May 30) who have died from COVID-19.
Robert E. Simon, 101, Reston Founder, Dies
Reston founder’s legacy remains immortal.
Paul Hartke invited Bob Simon on his pontoon boat on Lake Audubon when Simon was in his 90s. “He stood on the back of the pontoon boat and we revved the motor and he beamed, ‘This makes you feel like a kid.’ That’s what kept him going I think.'”

Tuesday morning, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors voted for a four-cent tax rate increase, advertising a tax rate of $1.13 per $100 of assessed value.

The fate of a modern architectural gem in Reston could be decided this week when the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors considers an application to construct more than 40 homes on the site of the American Press Institute.

4 People have died in the Potomac River since June 26. On Thursday, Sept. 5, rescuers discovered the body of Mark Moore, 22 of Odenton, at 5:45 p.m., three days after river rescue teams were first dispatched to the river on Labor Day, Sept. 2 at 8 p.m.

The Honor Flight Network transports aging veterans to visit memorials built in Washington D.C. in their honor. Caroline Healy and 11 of her peers in Girl Scout Troop 3651 based in Great Falls are hosting a screening of "Honor Flight" at AMC Worldgate 9 Theaters in Herndon on March 16 at 5:30 p.m.

Arlington’s Week in Coronavirus
Coronavirus response funding – The Arlington Board will take action to accept $413,265 in federal CARES Act funding from the state. The funding would be used to expand services that provide home-delivered meals, in-home care services, respite care for caregivers and information, and referral to supportive services to Arlingtonians age 60 and older and their caregivers.
