Now, after 25 years of walking those hallowed halls as its director, Bulova shares the story behind the preservation of the tavern in her book “Gadsby’s Tavern, Images of America.”
Community Mourns Loss of Becky Arnold
Realtor, community activist, arts supporter dies at 59.
A passionate supporter of the arts and member of the Alexandria Democratic Committee, Arnold was diagnosed earlier this year with cancer and died suddenly Oct. 3 after a brief stay at the Halquist Memorial Hospice in Arlington.

Steve Sasson was just 25 years old and beginning to work his way up at the Eastman Kodak Company when he got an assignment from his supervisor: build an electronic camera using a charge coupled device. The result — U.S. patent number 4,131,919 — earned Sasson induction into the National Inventors Hall of Fame for what is known today as the digital camera.

Judy Birney was just 12 years old when her father, youth detective Conrad Birney, was killed responding to a bank robbery in 1972. She went on to follow in her father’s footsteps, serving as an Alexandria police officer until 1999. On March 28, she joined more than 350 people for the dedication of the Alexandria Fallen Officers Memorial honoring the sacrifice of her father and 17 others who died in the line of duty.

The Alexandria Seaport Foundation held its 8th Annual Paul Weeks II Golf Tournament May 12 at Pohick Bay in the Mason Neck area of Fairfax County. This year's tournament was held in memory of Willie Taylor, founder of the tournament and former president of the Robinson Terminal Warehouse where the ASF is located.
