A Glimpse at Some Fairfax City CIP Requests

Next Tuesday, Feb. 28, City Manager Bob Sisson will present his proposed FY ’18 budget for the City of Fairfax. Among other things, it will include funds for some of the Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) requested by various City entities.

As the seniors in royal-blue caps and gowns entered Fairfax High’s field house for their graduation, last week, parents eagerly waved and shouted, hoping to catch their children’s eyes, if only for a second. And with 587 students graduating last Thursday, June 14, that wasn’t easy to do.
Our Daily Bread Receives Grant
Our Daily Bread (ODB) is always helping people in need; now it’s receiving a helping hand to continue carrying on its work. The Fairfax nonprofit has just been awarded a $25,000 grant by the United Way of the National Capital Area (NCA). The money will expand ODB’s ability to provide grocery cards via its Food Bridge Program. These cards are given to Fairfax County residents participating in ODB’s supplemental delivered-food program, as well as to people referred to the organization for emergency food assistance.
Electric Cars Get Jump-Start with New Law

On Tuesday, July 12, Gov. Robert McDonnell (R) held a ceremonial signing of Del. David Bulova’s (D-37) House Bill 2105, a bi-partisan effort which removes barriers to clean-fuel technology and encourage electric vehicle charging stations.
Candle Causes Fire at Clifton Home
Fairfax County fire officials say a house fire, early Sunday morning, caused an estimated $150,000 damage to a Clifton home. The incident occurred May 5, around 12:45 a.m., at 5597 Cavalier Woods Lane.
Hot Exhaust Causes $231,500 House Fire
A house fire April 10 in the Fairfax Center area caused an estimated $231,500 worth of damage. Fairfax County fire officials say it began accidentally when the hot exhaust of a riding lawn tractor ignited nearby dry ground cover. Flames then quickly spread, catching the home’s siding on fire, as well.

Fairfax Man Charged With Molesting Child
A Fairfax man who worked as a local swimming coach and instructor has been arrested and charged with molesting a 7-year-old girl. He is Eduardo Requejo, 23, of Warwick Avenue. Fairfax County police say the alleged crimes did not happen at his worksite; the child is an acquaintance and was not one of his students.

The Ballet Arts Ensemble of Fairfax will perform “Nutcracker in a Nutshell,” a condensed version of the classic holiday ballet, on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 3 and 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 16, at 3 p.m., at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall at the Northern Virginia Community College, Alexandria campus, at 3001 North Beauregard St.
