Canela Bahamonde, 7, attends first grade at Cub Run Elementary School in Centreville. She lives with her parents, who are originally from Ecuador, and she has an older brother. She is bilingual in Spanish and English and recently received her first belt in Tae Kwon Do. She was escorted down the runway by civil rights advocate and Congresswoman Virginia Foxx of North Carolina during the Global Down Syndrome Foundation’s “Be Beautiful Be Yourself Gala” at the Ritz Carlton in D.C. on May 8.
