Helen Newman Roche is waiting line for the regular Democratic lunch at Busboys and Poets. She says, “See my donkey pin? It was my grandmother Ora’s, and I wear it every election even though the rhinestones are falling out. I don’t care. My grandmother in Oklahoma was my tutor for Democratic politics, and I grew up at her foot.”
