From left -- Mariam Schfik, Ryan Phillips and Keivon Chamanara, all eighth-graders at Lanier Middle School in Fairfax show off their third place winnings in the “Caring for our Watersheds” competition at the School Environmental Action Showcase” The trio are determined to end the use of throw-away plastic bottles at their school – and elsewhere. They are raising funds to add more water bottle filling stations at Lanier, after the success of the stations they installed last year with the help of the prize money they earned at the 2015 Showcase.

Fairfax: Lanier Middle Cleans Up at Environmental Action Showcase
There were more than five hundred students representing schools from Alexandria City, Arlington, Fairfax County, Falls Church, Loudoun County and Prince William County at the 2016 School Environmental Action Showcase (SEAS), co-hosted by NoVA Outside and George Mason University and making its fifth appearance on GMU’s Fairfax campus, in the Center for the Arts building.
