Learning about Autism
April was Autism Awareness month and students at Union Mill Elementary School had an opportunity to participate in a sensory simulation activity during P.E. classes. Students experienced an obstacle course that simulated activities children with autism find helpful such as jumping, bouncing, pressure, etc. Students were rotated to other stations that simulated challenges for some children with autism (perception confusion, fine motor challenges, and filtering out external stimuli).
