Pitcairn Pistols made by John Murdoch, Doune, Scotland, mid-18th century. British major John Pitcairn lost these ornately decorated, all-metal pistols at Lexington on April 19, 1775, the first engagement of the Revolutionary War. One historical account claims a Minuteman presented them to American General Israel "Old Put" Putnam, who used them until he resigned from service.
