Arrest in Worldgate Shooting

Mohamed Abdalla, 25, of Herndon, Va. was arrested without incident Monday, Oct. 7, 2024, in the 1000-blk of Kings Court and charged with four felonies stemming from a shooting in the Worldgate Shopping Center the previous night. Abdalla is at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, charged with malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and two counts of abduction.

An officer was on patrol in the area of Worldgate Drive and Elden Street around 7:40 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 6, when he heard what he believed to be gunshots coming from the Worldgate Shopping Center. As he approached the shopping center, he observed a vehicle leave the area at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit was authorized, and the officer followed the vehicle on to the Dulles Toll Road. While in pursuit, the officer lost sight of the vehicle, and the pursuit was terminated.

Meanwhile, a 911 call came in about a victim with multiple gunshot wounds in the shopping center parking lot. Officers arrived on scene and rendered lifesaving aid until rescue arrived. At the time of this release, the victim is in stable condition.

Shortly after these events unfolded, a witness returned to the scene to provide information and identify the suspect. After interviewing her, it was established that she and a juvenile were in the vehicle that left the scene, and they were able to safely escape. The vehicle was recovered in Reston later Sunday night.

With the suspect identified, detectives, patrol officers, and the Fairfax County Police Department’s Fugitive Task Force worked through the day on Monday to track the suspect throughout Herndon. Once his location was established, FCPD’s SWAT unit was called in to safely make the apprehension.

The suspect and the victim were known to each other. No further details will be released at this time, due to the ongoing investigation.
