Alexandria’s Interim Chief of Police Raul Pedroso was in impressive form as he took to the mound to throw out the first pitch of the Alexandria Aces game June 30 at Frank Mann Field.
Greeted by catcher Max Kalk after the ceremonial first pitch, Pedroso was cheered on by Aces fans and supporters who had gathered for the Alexandria Police Foundation night at the Aces game.
Playing against the Southern Maryland Senators as part of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League, the hometown team extended their record to 18-7 with the 6-5 victory over the Senators and a 5-1 victory over the Silver Spring Thunderbolts the following day.
“The team is looking good,” said head coach Chris Berset. “We’re in a good spot so far and having some fun.”
Under Berset’s direction, the Aces took home the league championship in 2022 and closed out last year’s season as runners-up. Trailblazer Jennifer Hammond, the league’s lone female coach when she joined the team in 2021, serves as assistant coach.
“We’re super excited that we are going to be hosting the girls and women in baseball night for the fourth consecutive season,” said Hammond of the event held the following night. “It’s a celebration of DC girls baseball and Eastern Women’s Baseball Conference and a chance to celebrate all the girls and women in the game today from the field to the owners office.”
