Breast cancer survivor and restaurateur Margaret Janowsky hosted the kickoff event for the upcoming Walk to Bust Cancer Oct. 5 at the Del Ray Café she shares with her husband Laurent.
“The 8th annual Walk to Bust Cancer will take place Oct. 15 at Fort Hunt Park,” said Martha Carucci, the executive director of the National Breast Center Foundation. “The Walk is a very special day to celebrate survivorship, to honor and remember those we have lost to the disease and to support those women who are currently in the midst of the battle.”
The Walk is a 1.2-mile loop through the park.
“It is an easy course so that women going through chemo and radiation can participate,” Carucci said. “We will have music, meditation – people bring their dogs, their kids. It’s really a family friendly event.”
“The Walk is a very special day.”

Carucci said that a new Circle of Strength will be featured this year.
“The Circle of Strength will feature all warriors and survivors in a pink shirt and surrounded by supporters in black shirts and we will get a great aerial photo of that,” Carucci said. “We have commissioned from an artist a circle of strength image to capture that.”
Carucci noted that the Janowsky’s have placed a QR code in the Del Ray Café so that patrons can easily donate to the Walk.
Carucci added, “Del Ray Café is hosting us today and made a special announcement that Margaret and Laurent will match donations that come in through the restaurant up to $10,000.”
