Dreary skies did not deter the crowds as tens of thousands descended on Mount Vernon Avenue for the 28th annual Art on the Avenue Oct. 7 in Del Ray.
Held the first Saturday of October on Mount Vernon Avenue between Hume and Bellefonte Avenues, Art on the Avenue showcases hundreds of local artists against the backdrop of the vibrant Del Ray community. The event, considered one of the top arts events in Northern Virginia, is entirely volunteer-run, with support from the Del Ray Business Association and the local business community.
In addition to the artists and craftsmen, four entertainment stages featured live music from Blues to Bluegrass, Irish, Country and Rock and Roll.
Children’s activities included paint-a-pumpkin, build-a-scarecrow, and a variety of craft activities led by local nonprofits.
Prizes were awarded in the ever-popular pie baking contest, which raised funds to benefit the local Domestic Violence Shelter.
