The parking lot of George Washington Middle School was filled with furry friends and their human companions as the first annual Del Ray Dog Fest took place April 2 celebrating dogs, their owners and the Del Ray community.

Sponsored by the Del Ray Business Association, the outdoor festival featured live music, a dog's version of the popular Taste of Del Ray, and Yappy Hours to benefit Project Second Chance, a local nonprofit dedicated to rehabilitating and finding forever homes for rescues while working to address the animal welfare crisis in Puerto Rico. Project Second Chance works with spay/neuter initiatives and feeding routes to aid homeless and abandoned animals.

The Del Ray Business Association held the first annual Del Ray Dog Fest April 2 at George Washington Middle School and served as a fundraiser for animal welfare nonprofit Project Second Chance.

Other highlights of the event included Pups ‘n Poses Yoga Class with Yoga In Del Ray, pet portraits by Shoshanna and Company, a dog fashion show hosted by From Head to Tail Grooming Spa, Distracted Dog Race hosted by Passionately Pets, Scent Work with Highland Eco Pest Control, and Canine Fitness & Confidence Course with Wholistic Hound Academy. Entertainment was provided by Will Baskin with The Peele Group as the presenting sponsor.

The celebration continued throughout the evening as local restaurants featured Yappy Hours with food and drink specials.
