At 11:56 p.m. on Friday, June 4, Virginia State Police responded to a two-vehicle crash on northbound I-495 south of the American Legion Bridge.
According to police reports, a 2019 Hyundai Kona was traveling in the far left lane at a high rate of speed when it crossed two lanes, struck a 2018 Freightliner tractor-trailer in the center lane and continued to travel off the right side of the road. The Hyundai spun as it ran off the road, running into the ditch, hitting two trees and overturning.
The driver of the Hyundai, Daniel E. Gluckman, 36, of Rockville, Md., died at the scene. He was wearing a seatbelt.
The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured.
Speed is considered a factor in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
