"Changing Minds" Addresses Children’s Exposure to Violence
The Department of Justice (DOJ) has launched an initiative called Changing Minds, a national public education campaign to raise awareness, teach skills, and prompt public action in response to children’s exposure to violence in the U.S. This multi-year campaign, established through DOJ’s Defending Childhood Initiative, features digital and print content intended to reach adults who interact with children and youth in grades K–12. The new campaign website,ChangingMindsNOW.org, provides resources and tips on how to support children who may have been affected by violence.
The Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention developed Changing Minds in partnership with Futures Without Violence, the Ad Council and the Wunderman ad agency. Their agencies are working together to spread the word and are in need of your help. Research indicates that proper intervention, including support from caring adults, can help children heal. With this in mind, you are encouraged to use these resources and share this message with your networks. Learn More: ChangingMindsNow.org

Volunteer with CASA and Lift Up a Child’s Voice. Become a Court Appointed Special Advocate and provide an abused and neglected child with a voice within the confusing child welfare system. Fairfax CASA is a 501(c)3 public charity that provides every child with an open abuse and neglect case in the Fairfax County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court with a voice. Our goal is to find every child a safe and loving home by reporting to the courts on the “best interest” of the child. While many children have social workers, foster parents, therapists and teachers which change over time, the CASA volunteer is often the only stable adult presence in their life. Join Fairfax CASA in raising awareness about the volunteering opportunities within our organization. Visit www.fairfaxcasa.org for more information about Fairfax CASA.
