The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna Police Department from May 22 – May 28, 2020.
INCIDENTS
Embezzlement -- Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE Between April 20 at 12 p.m. and April 23 at 12 p.m. An employee reported that another employee stole gift cards from the credit union.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation -- 100 Block Saint Bernard Drive, NE May 20,5:27 a.m. Ofc. Colligan was speaking to a passenger in a vehicle that was involved in an accident. During the officer’s interaction, he found the passenger to have narcotics. Ofc. Colligan issued a summons to the passenger, a 22-year-old man from Ulster Heights Road in Ellenville, N. Y., charging Possession of a Schedule IV Drug. The man was released on his signature.
Destruction of Property -- 300 Block Holmes Drive, NW May 22, 5:33 a.m. A resident reported damage to their vehicle’s tire,
Suspicious Event -- 500 Block Kingsley Road, SW May 23, 3:19 p.m. A resident requested assistance with his juvenile daughter’s friend who was sending messages to his cell phone to contact his daughter. The resident was advised to send a message to the friend and request they stop contacting his daughter.
Fraud -- 400 Block MacArthur Avenue, NE May 23, 5:34 p.m. An out of state citizen made an on-line payment to purchase a puppy. The citizen was given the MacArthur Avenue address as the location to pick up the dog, but when she traveled from out of state to the address, the resident advised her they were not the seller. The resident advised there have been other scams in the past where an unknown person has used their address in the fraud.
Trespassing -- Vienna Elementary School 128 Center Street, South May 23, 9:13 p.m. Officers responding to the report of people on the roof of the elementary school located two juveniles. While one of the juveniles was climbing down from the roof, she injured her ankle. Officers notified the parents of both juveniles, and they responded to the scene. One of the juveniles was released to the custody of his father. Rescue personnel transported the injured juvenile to an area hospital for treatment. The juveniles were trespassed from the school property. Petitions are pending in this case.
Arrest – Domestic Assault -- Patrick Street, SE May 23, 10:16 p.m. A resident reported that he was assaulted by his adult son. MPO Tremont arrested the 18-year-old man from Patrick Street, SE. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Domestic Assault and served with an Emergency Protective Order.
Trespassing -- Vienna Elementary School 128 Center Street, South May 24, 12:49 a.m. An officer found a juvenile on school property after dark. The juvenile’s parent was notified and responded to the school to pick up their daughter.
Police Service -- Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, South May 24, 7:30 a.m. A citizen reported that he left his cellphone on a Metro train. He called his phone and an unknown man answered. Arrangements were made with the man to meet the citizen in Vienna to return the phone, however, the man stopped communicating with the citizen and has failed to return the phone.
Suspicious Event -- 400 Block Mill Street, SE May 24, 4:15 p.m. A resident reported that fishing line was tied to his mailbox, across the sidewalk, and entangled in multiple trees and signs.
Stolen Vehicle -- 800 Block Plum Street, SW Between May 25 at 9:45 p.m. and May 26 at 7 a.m. A resident reported her vehicle was stolen from her driveway. The vehicle was left unlocked, with the rear windows down, and the keys in the console.
Suspicious Event -- 133 Maple Avenue, East May 26, 1:45 a.m. At 4 p.m., the property management company reported that their security cameras showed a naked man pulling on all of the doors of the building to gain access at approximately 1:45 a.m. He was also observed in the lobby and side stairs.
Vehicle Tampering -- 100 Block Patrick Street, SE May 26, 5 a.m. A resident reported that someone entered his two unlocked vehicles and rummaged through them. Nothing appeared to have been taken.
Petit Larceny -- 200 Block Oak Street, SW May 26, 1:50 p.m. A resident reported that an unknown person entered her unlocked vehicle and stole the vehicle owner’s manual, the registration, and the insurance card.
Animal Case -- 300 Block Church Street, NE May 26, 2 p.m. A resident was walking his dog on Church Street when two small dogs escaped their fenced yard and bit his dog. The owner of the attacking dogs immediately ran out to get his dogs. All three dogs were current with their vaccines and the two dog owners worked the matter out between themselves.
Petit Larceny -- Vienna Community Center 120 Cherry Street, SE May 26 between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. A citizen reported that her son’s bicycle was stolen from the bike rack where it had been left unlocked.
Found Property -- 500 Block Yeonas Drive, SW May 26, 6:39 p.m. A resident found a machete in their yard.
Domestic Dispute -- Patrick Street, SE May 27, 1:47 a.m. Officers responded to a verbal dispute between a resident and his adult son. The son agreed to leave the residence for the night. The son returned to the home at 4:45 a.m. and began arguing with his father again. The son left the area before officers arrived.
Suspicious Event -- 900 Block Carole Court, SE May 28 between 12 a.m. and 7 a.m. A resident reported that the door handle on her vehicle was broken and she believes it may have been the result of someone tampering with the vehicle.
Assist EMS -- 315 Maple Avenue, East May 28, 1:37 a.m. Officers responded to assist rescue personnel with a woman who had taken a large amount of an over-the- counter medication. The woman was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and treatment.
Stolen Vehicle -- 100 Block Dogwood Street, SW May 28, 3:13 a.m. A resident reported that two vehicles were stolen from his residence. Both vehicles were left unlocked with the key fobs inside. Officers were able to track one of the vehicles. With the assistance with Metropolitan Washington DC Police, the vehicles were recovered in Washington, DC. Reference Incident # 20-4271.
Vehicle Tampering -- 900 Block Ware Street, SW May 28, 3:27 a.m. A resident reported that a pair of sunglasses, charging cables, and other miscellaneous items were taken from his vehicle.
Stolen Vehicle Recovery -- 100 Block Dogwood Street, SW May 28, 7:50 a.m. The officer investigating an Incident observed an unoccupied vehicle parked at the residence. A check on that vehicle indicated it was reported as stolen from Washington, DC. Metropolitan Washington DC Police were notified of the vehicle recovery.
Police Service -- Vienna Town Green 144 Maple Avenue, East May 28, 10:01 p.m. The Vienna Parks and Recreation Department reported a man who was sleeping at the Town Green at night. An officer located the man and advised him that he was not permitted to stay in the park at night and that he may be charged with trespass if he returns.
CRASHES
1000 Block Maple Avenue, East -- May 20, 12:01 a.m. Vehicle-2 was legally parked when it was struck by Vehicle-1. Driver-1 fled the scene without providing their information.
100 Block Saint Bernard Drive, NE -- May 20, 5:27 a.m. Vehicle-2 was legally parked northbound on Saint Bernard Drive, NE. Vehicle-1 was traveling northbound when the driver became distracted and struck the vehicle. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
Maple Avenue and Park Street, NE -- May 23, 11:45 a.m. Two vehicles were on eastbound Maple Avenue in the left turn lane to go north onto Park Street. Vehicle-1 ran into the rear of Vehicle-2.
