Vienna Police Highlights April 17 – April 23, 2020

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna Police Department from April 17 – April 23, 2020:

INCIDENTS

Police Service -- Meadow Lane, SW April 14, 10:44 a.m. A social worker requested a welfare check on a resident who was making concerning statements to her on the phone. After officers spoke to the resident, they transported her to an area health facility for evaluation and treatment.

Police Service -- 100 Block Locust Street, SW April 16, 5 p.m. A resident found mouthpieces to a vaping device and vaping cartridges in her home and turned them over to the police department for destruction.

Found Property -- 200 Block Marian Circle, SW Between April 17 at 12 p.m. and April 20 at 1 p.m. A resident reported a bicycle that was left abandoned on the side of the road.

Fraud -- 700 Block Ninovan Road, SE April 17 between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m. A resident reported that an unknown person used her personal information to purchase an iPhone and set up an account.

Grand Larceny -- 400 Block Pine Street, SE Between April 17 at 6 p.m. and April 19 at 5 p.m. A citizen reported that someone broke into a trailer where he stores his tools and stole a leaf blower and two weed trimmers.

Grand Larceny -- 1100 Block Lakewood Drive, SW Between April 17 at 9 p.m. and April 18 at 8 a.m. A resident reported that their vehicle was stolen. The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside it, parked on the roadway.

Petit Larceny -- 100 Block Elm Street, SW Between April 17 at 9 p.m. and April 18 at 3:30 p.m. A resident reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and stole two gift cards and a pair of sunglasses. The resident also found a lighter outside his vehicle that did not belong to him

Vehicle Tampering -- 100 Block Elm Street, SW Between April 17 at 10 p.m. and April 18 at 4:38 a.m. An officer was searching the area for the man involved in Incident when he found an unoccupied vehicle with the lights on. The officer notified the owner of the vehicle who came out to check his car and found that an unknown person had rummaged through the vehicle and had taken U.S. currency.

Vehicle Tampering -- 100 Block Hickory Circle, SW Between April 17 at 11 p.m. and April 18 at 10 a.m. A resident reported that someone entered his unlocked vehicle and rummaged through it. Nothing appeared to have been taken.

Petit Larceny -- 200 Block Elm Street, SW Between April 17 at 11 p.m. and April 18 at 10:36 a.m. A resident reported that someone entered their unlocked vehicle, rummaged through it and took U.S. currency.

Grand Larceny -- 700 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW April 18 between 1 a.m. and 3 a.m. A resident reported that their vehicle was stolen from their residence. The vehicle was left unlocked with the keys inside.

Grand Larceny -- 100 Block Elm Street, SW April 18 between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m. A resident reported that someone rummaged through two of their unlocked vehicles. Nothing was missing from one of the vehicles. Paper prescriptions were taken from the other vehicle.

Grand Larceny -- School of Rock 111 Center Street, South April 18, 4:22 a.m. An employee was at work when he saw his vehicle was moving in the rear parking lot. The employee ran out to the lot and confronted a man who was in his vehicle. The man got out of the vehicle and fled on foot southbound on Center Street.

Found Property -- 700 Block Hillcrest Drive, SW April 18, 11:30 a.m. A resident found a backpack and a tool bag in their yard.

Found Property -- 200 Block Elm Street, SW April 18, 11:30 a.m. A resident found a box in her yard that contained drinking glasses.

Found Property -- 200 Block Battle Street, SW April 18, 2:07 p.m. A resident turned in a cell phone that she found in her yard.

Found Property -- 200 Block Elm Street, SW April 18, 2:30 p.m. A resident found various property including driver’s licenses and other items in his yard.

Arrest – Drunk In Public -- 500 Block Maple Avenue, West April 18, 7:59 p.m. Employees from various businesses on Maple Avenue reported a man entering their establishments and acting disorderly. Officers located the man in the area of the Chic-Fil-A. Upon the officers' interaction with the man, they detected signs of impairment. MPO Shaw arrested the 47-year-old man from Fox Mill Road in Oakton. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and charged with Drunk in Public.

Petit Larceny -- 200 Block Tapawingo Road, SE Between April 18 at 9 p.m. and April 19 at 1 p.m. A resident reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle and stole U.S. currency.

Civil Dispute -- 200 Block Cedar Lane, SE April 19, 2:52 a.m. A tow truck driver was attempting to remove an unauthorized vehicle from the shopping center parking lot when he found a man sleeping inside the vehicle. Officers spoke to the man, and he agreed to make arrangements to have the vehicle moved.

Domestic Dispute -- Old Courthouse Road, NE April 19, 9:30 a.m. A resident reported she was having a verbal dispute with her ex-husband when he made a statement that she felt was threatening.

Found Property -- 300 Block Courthouse Road, SW April 19, 4:11 p.m. A citizen turned in a set of keys that were found on the sidewalk.

Domestic Dispute -- Patrick Street, SE April 19, 5:05 p.m. A resident requested assistance with his adult son who was acting aggressively toward him. The son agreed to leave the apartment and stay with friends to allow both parties to calm down.

Suspicious Event -- 200 Block Locust Street, SE April 20, 12:15 p.m. A resident reported issues with her roommate.

Suspicious Event -- Advanced Pediatrics 100 East Street, SE, #301 April 20, 3:40 p.m. An employee reported that they found a man walking around in their office that is currently closed to the public. When the employee questioned the man, he walked away. Officers searched the building but did not locate the man.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation -- Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW April 20, 6:10 p.m. Officers located four men in the woods between the school and Desale Street. Upon the officers’ interaction with the men, they detected an odor of marijuana. All four men were in possession of the drug. Ofc. Farr issued summonses charging Possession of Marijuana to a 20-year-old man from Patrick Street, SE, Vienna, two 23-year-old men from Cedar Lane, SE, Vienna, and a 24-year-old man from Cedar Lane in Vienna. All of the men were released on their signatures.

Arrest - Domestic Assault -- 200 Block Courthouse Circle, SW April 20, 6:51 p.m. A resident requested assistance with her adult daughter. The resident reported that her daughter had assaulted her and was making threatening statements. Ofc. Colligan arrested the 31-year-old woman from Courthouse Road, SW, Vienna. She was transported to an area medical facility for evaluation and treatment on an Emergency Care Order. Charges for the Domestic Assault are pending.

Assist EMS -- Walgreens 225 Maple Avenue, East April 22, 8:46 p.m. Officers responded to assist with a man who stated he was suffering a medical emergency. The man was transported by rescue personnel to an area hospital for evaluation.

Petit Larceny -- 900 Block Moorefield Hill Grove, SW Between April 22 at 11 p.m. and April 23 at 9:50 a.m. A resident reported that someone entered her unlocked vehicle, rummaged through it, and took various gift cards.

Police Service -- 100 Block Wade Hampton Drive, SW April 23, 12:02 p.m. A resident stated he had previously been involved in a lawsuit with a man. He is concerned because he has observed the man driving on his street and taking photos of his home.

Vandalism -- 225 Maple Avenue, East April 23 between 2 p.m. and 2:15 p.m. A citizen reported that she was driving in the parking lot of the shopping center. As she passed a man, he hit the window of her vehicle. The citizen parked her vehicle near Jammin Java and the man approached her car and punched the passenger side door panel, causing minor damage. An officer spoke to the man who advised he was upset with the woman because she almost struck him as he was walking through the lot. The citizen was advised of the warrant process should she wish to pursue charges against the man.

CRASHES

1000 Block Glyndon Street, SE -- April 21, 12 p.m. Vehicle-1 was traveling southbound on Glyndon Street, SE. Vehicle-2, a tree removal vehicle, was legally parked on the roadway in front of a construction site. Driver-1 was being directed through the construction area by a workman when she struck Vehicle-2 causing minimal damage to Vehicle-1.
