Week in Burke: Investigation Continues in Burke Shooting

Detectives from Major Crimes Bureau continue to investigate the Oct. 21 shooting in the 6100 block of Wicklow Drive in Burke. As of Thursday afternoon, Oct. 24, Crime Scene and Forensic detectives have completed their work at the residence and have cleared the scene. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has completed autopsies of the two victims and suspect. Homicide detectives are awaiting receipt of the final autopsy report from the Medical Examiner. As police initially shared, an officer returned fire on the suspect. Second Lieutenant Edward Rediske, a 25-year veteran of the department and currently assigned to the West Springfield District Station, returned fire after being shot upon by the suspect while nearing the rear of the residence with a reaction team in an effort to rescue the lives of the victims in the home.

In addition to the active Major Crimes Bureau investigation, Chief Edwin C. Roessler Jr. has directed Internal Affairs Bureau to conduct an administrative investigation in accordance with policy, along with an independent review by the Independent Police Auditor.
