Delegate, Supervisor Candidates to Debate in Great Falls
The Great Falls Citizens Association (GFCA) has announced it will hold a debate for candidates for the Virginia House of Delegates (34th District) and the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors (Dranesville District) on Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the Grange, 9818 Georgetown Pike, Great Falls. Participating in this debate will be incumbent Del. Kathleen Murphy (D) and challenger Gary Pan (R), and incumbent Supervisor John Foust (D) and challenger Ed Martin (R). This program will start earlier than most GFCA meetings to accommodate the schedules of some of the participants.
The first debate from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. will feature the candidates for Delegate; the candidates for Supervisor debate will follow. In addition, State Sen. Barbara Favola (D-31) is unopposed and will make a short statement during the program. The format will include short opening and closing statements by the candidates and questions from the moderator provided by the audience. The public is encouraged to attend.
Free Screening of ‘Like’ Documentary
Families and kids are welcome to this free community event. If your child is active on any kind of social media, come and bring them with you. Safe Community Coalition (SCC) presents a screening of the documentary LIKE that explores the impact of social media on our lives and the effects of technology on the brain. The goal of the film is to inspire us to self-regulate. Social media is a tool and social platforms are a place to connect, share, and care…but is that what's really happening? After the film, discussion will be led by Dr. Clifford Sussman, a D.C.-based psychiatrist and expert on helping people achieve a more balanced relationship with digital technology.

Military Appreciation Monday to Honor Patriot Point
This month's Military Appreciation Monday (MAM) dinner will take place on Monday Oct. 21 in support of Patriot Point. This will be the second time raising funds for this organization.
