It was “All-Aboard” with train trivia, local history, and locomotive fun when the Fairfax Station Railroad Museum held Game Day on Sunday, March 10, 2019, in Fairfax Station. Children could take part in a scavenger hunt, play Museum Clue Bingo and Thomas’ Name Game, take some quizzes, as well as tour the facility inside and out. Geared towards smaller children, the idea was to provide an entertaining outlet to learn a little bit of railroading in Northern Virginia as well as Civil War history.

“It’s educationally oriented but painlessly,” said Michael Chinworth, former vice president and docent. “Sometimes people flinch a little bit when they think they’re going to get a homework assignment walking through the door but it turns out to be enjoyable for them and they learn a few things. And we’re a museum and we want to teach and it’s a nice convergence of activities, fun, and education.”

The Burke Centre Chick-fil-A provided prizes and helped support activities for the Scavenger Hunt.
