Crash Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate a fatal crash Monday night, Dec. 31, in Fairfax Station. Officers responded to the Fairfax County Parkway near New Road around 8:45 for a crash involving two cars. A preliminary investigation revealed that Melanie McKenna, 20, of Centreville, was driving a 1996 Toyota Corolla southbound on the Parkway when she failed to negotiate a bend in the road, and went off the roadway to the left. She overcorrected and lost control, sliding across the roadway and driving into oncoming northbound traffic lanes. She collided with a 2015 Acura MDX. McKenna died at the scene of the crash. The driver of the 2015 Acura, and two of McKenna’s passengers were taken to a local hospital. Speed, alcohol and drugs were not factors for the driver of the Acura, but detectives are still working to determine if any were a factor for McKenna according to FCPD. Detectives from the Crash Reconstruction Unit continue to investigate a fatal vehicle crash that occurred around 6:17 the morning of Dec. 26. Officers responded to Ox Road just prior to the Fairfax County Parkway for a crash involving a car and a dump truck. A 2008 Acura sedan was traveling northbound on Ox Road when it struck the back of a dump truck which had slowed due to traffic at the light. The driver, Ryan Easterly, 28, of Dumfries, Va. was taken to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. Neither speed nor alcohol appear to be factors. No charges are expected to the driver of the dump truck.
