The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from Jan. 25 – Jan. 31, 2019.
INCIDENTS
Assault -- Oakton Vienna Animal Hospital 320 Maple Avenue, East between Dec. 7 at 4:30 p.m. and Jan. 18 at 4:30 p.m. A citizen, whose employment was recently terminated from the animal hospital, came to the police station to report that one of the other employees assaulted her on three separate occasions. The citizen was advised of the warrant process should she wish to pursue charges.
Lost Property -- Northwest Federal Credit Union 231 Maple Avenue, East Jan. 19 11 a.m. A citizen lost her license at the bank.
Animal Case – Quarantine -- 1000 Block Westwood Drive, NE Jan. 19, 3 p.m. A resident advised his dog walker was bitten on the leg by his dog. The dog was placed on a 10-day quarantine.
Found Property -- 164 Maple Avenue, West Jan. 21, 5:55 p.m. A citizen found a wallet in the parking lot behind the shopping center. He brought the wallet to the Vienna Police Station to be released to the owner.
Assist EMS -- 1000 Block Pickett Place, SW Jan. 26, 2:10 a.m. A resident requested rescue personnel, stating that she did not feel well after consuming too much alcohol. The resident was transported by rescue personnel to an area hospital for treatment.
Police Service -- 500 Block Beulah Road, NE Jan. 26, 1:26 p.m. A resident requested assistance with a child custody issue.
Noise Violation -- The Bey Lounge 303 Mill Street, NE Jan. 27, 12:07 a.m. A resident complained of noise coming from The Bey Lounge. An officer checked the area around the resident’s home and the area of The Bey Lounge. The officer did not hear any noise or observe any violations.
Death – Unknown Cause -- 100 Block Oak Street, SW Between Jan. 26 at 10 p.m. and Jan. 27 at 7:20 a.m. Officers responded with rescue personnel for a man who was unresponsive in his home. Rescue personnel determined the man, who suffered from medical issues, was deceased.
Suspicious Event -- 200 Block Glen Avenue, SW Jan. 27, 2:03 p.m. A resident noticed a screen had fallen out of one of her windows and a chair had been moved from her porch to the area under the window.
Assist EMS -- 400 Block Glyndon Street, NE Jan. 27, 3:33 p.m. Officers responded with rescue personnel for an elderly woman who was unresponsive in her home. The woman was transported to an area hospital.
Suspicious Event -- 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE Jan. 27, 11:17 p.m. Two residents reported being continuously harassed by a neighbor. The residents were advised of the warrant process should they wish to pursue charges.
Police Service - 200 Block Park Terrace Court, SE Jan. 27, 11:56 p.m. A resident reported a noise complaint from the unit below hers. An officer responded to the resident’s home but did not observe any violations.
Vehicle Tampering -- 300 Block Owaissa Road, SE Jan. 27, 8:18 a.m. Two residents reported that someone poured a white granular substance in the gas tanks of their vehicles. Tacks were left under the tires of both vehicles.
Suspicious Event -- 700 Block Tapawingo Road, SW Jan. 28, 1:40 p.m. A resident reported hearing footsteps in her house. Officers checked the residence, finding the exterior secure and no sign that anyone had entered the home.
Suspicious Event -- Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West Jan. 29, 12:22 a.m. A citizen called to report that he had been threatened. When officers arrived, the citizen refused to speak with them.
Police Service -- Vienna Police Station 215 Center Street, S Jan. 30, 3:53 a.m. A taxi driver drove to the Vienna Police Station with a customer. The driver advised the customer appeared to be confused, and he was concerned for the safety of the customer. Ofc. Farr spoke to the man who appeared to be physically stable. However, his thoughts were disorganized. The officer was able to make arrangements for the man at an area shelter and transported him to the facility.
CRASHES
West Street and Pleasant Street, NW -- Jan. 18, 8:11 p.m. An unknown vehicle struck a vehicle that was legally parked, unattended, on Lewis Street. The driver left the scene without stopping.
900 Block Maple Avenue, East -- Jan. 24, 6:17 p.m. Three vehicles were traveling westbound in the left lane of Maple Avenue. Vehicle-1 ran into the rear of Vehicle-2, causing Vehicle-2 to strike the rear of Vehicle-3. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
400 Block Maple Avenue, East -- Jan. 25, 1:59 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling westbound in the right lane of Maple Avenue. Vehicle-1 was eastbound on Maple in the center turn lane, waiting to make a left into a parking lot. As Vehicle-1 attempted to make the turn, it was struck by Vehicle-2.
137 Church Street, NW -- Jan. 27, 2 p.m. An unknown vehicle struck the rear of a vehicle that was legally parked in a parking lot. The driver left the scene without providing their information.
Lawyers Road near Maple Avenue, NW 1-- Jan. 28, 1:49 p.m. Vehicle-1 made a right onto Lawyers Road from westbound Maple Avenue. Driver-1 left the roadway and struck a light pole. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Maintain Control.
Tapawingo Road and Cottage Street, SW -- Jan. 28 7:40 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling westbound on Tapawingo Road, stopped at the stop sign for Cottage Street. Vehicle-1 was traveling southbound on Cottage Street, attempting to turn right onto Tapawingo. As Driver-1 entered the intersection, she struck Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Yield Right of Way.
Locust Street and Park Street, SE -- Jan. 29, 1:45 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling westbound on Locust Street, entering the traffic circle to turn left onto southbound Park Street. Vehicle-1 was traveling south on Park Street and entered the traffic circle without yielding to the right of way of Vehicle-2, who was already in the circle, causing the collision. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Yield.
