A 17-year-old is now in custody after he fled the Northern Virginia area following a Nov. 28 deadly shooting in Springfield. Detectives from Major Crimes Bureau worked throughout the night to identify the suspect. Once identified, felony petitions for murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony were obtained. Detectives from Fugitive Unit then began tracking the suspect’s whereabouts. Through their investigative leads, detectives received information that the suspect had fled to North Carolina. Detectives coordinated with the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and the suspect was safely taken into custody. The suspect will remain in the custody of the Sheriff’s office until extradited back to Fairfax County.
