INCIDENTS
Vandalism -- 600 Block Gibson Circle. SW Aug. 3 between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. A resident reported vandalism to his vehicle.
Petit Larceny -- 600 Block Meadow Lane, SW Between Aug. 8 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 9 at 6:50 a.m. A resident reported that someone vandalized his vehicle and stole his side-view mirror.
Arrest – Drunk In Public -- McDonald’s 544 Maple Ave., West Aug. 9, 2:08 a.m. Officers responding to an alarm at the restaurant were advised that there was a man who was irate and yelling at customers. Officers located the man in the parking lot. Upon the officers’ interaction with the man, they detected signs of impairment. Ofc. Colligan placed the man under arrest. The man began complaining of pain, and rescue personnel were summoned to evaluate him. The man was transported to an area hospital for treatment by rescue personnel. At the hospital, Ofc. Colligan issued a summons to the 52-year-old man from Washington Plaza in Reston, charging Drunk In Public. The man was released on his signature and left in the care of the hospital staff.
Animal Case – Quarantine -- 900 Block Woodnor Drive, NE Aug. 9, 8:30 a.m. A citizen was walking in the area when he observed two young girls walking a dog on a leash. The girls were unable to restrain the dog, and the dog jumped up and bit the citizen on the knee. The girls’ father came out of the house and restrained the dog. ACO Barker advised the owner of the 10-day quarantine.
Found Property -- Vienna Town Hall 127 Center Street, South Aug. 9, 10:25 a.m. A citizen turned in a wallet that they found on the sidewalk in front of Town Hall.
Grand Larceny -- Ghaffari Orthodontics 100 Church Street, NE Between Aug. 9 at 5 p.m. and Aug. 12 at 12:00 p.m. A member of the Vienna Arts Society reported that one of their benches was stolen from in front of Ghaffari Orthodontics.
Arrest – Narcotics Violation -- 200 Block Maple Ave., East Aug. 9, 8:51 p.m. Sgt. Ruddy observed a driver commit a traffic offense and initiated a traffic stop. Upon the officer’s interaction with the driver, she detected an odor of marijuana. The officer found the driver was in possession of a measurable amount of marijuana, drug paraphernalia, and a vaping device containing other possible intoxicating oils. Sgt. Ruddy issued a summons to the 19-year-old man with no fixed address charging Possession of Marijuana. The man was released on his signature.
Suspicious Person -- 100 Block Elm Street, SW Aug. 9 between 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. A resident advised she was being continuously harassed by an ex-boyfriend. An officer spoke to both parties who agreed to have no further contact with each other.
Arrest – Drunk In Public -- 100 Block Church Street, NW Aug. 10, 12:47 a.m. MPO Shaw was checking on a vehicle that was idling on Church Street. The officer found a man sleeping in the vehicle. Upon the officer’s interaction with the man, he detected the odor of alcohol. The man exited his vehicle, and the officer observed signs of impairment. MPO Shaw arrested the 34-year-old man from Promenade Place in Waldorf, Md. The man was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk In Public.
Found Property -- 500 Block Park Street, SE Aug. 10, 10:59 a.m. A citizen turned in a credit card that was found on Park Street.
Lost Property -- Church Street and Mill Street, NE Aug. 10, 7 p.m. A citizen reported that he lost his ring near the caboose while running on the W&OD trail.
Suspicious Event -- 600 Block Gibson Circle, SW Aug. 11, 10:26 p.m. A resident reported that he had an on-going dispute with a former acquaintance. The resident reported that he is now receiving threatening texts from the acquaintance.
Suspicious Event -- W&OD Trail between Park Street and Branch Road, SE Aug. 12, 7:50 a.m. A citizen was running on the bike trail when she observed a man in the woods masturbating. Officers searched the area but did not locate the man.
Assist EMS -- 100 Block Church Street, NW Aug. 12, 1:19 p.m. Officers responded to the report of a suspicious man. Upon the officers’ interaction with the man, they found he was conscious but possibly suffering a medical emergency. Rescue personnel were summoned and evaluated the man. The man refused transport to a medical facility for further treatment.
Suspicious Event -- The Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Ave., West Aug. 12, 5:41 p.m. A woman and her mother are staying in a room at the hotel. The woman advised she had previously obtained a warrant against a man for an assault that had occurred in another jurisdiction. She stated that earlier in the day, the man came to the hotel while her mother was in the room alone and began banging on the window. The hotel staff advised the man to leave the premises. The women and hotel staff were advised to call the police if the man returns.
Arrest – Assault -- 600 Block Gibson Circle, SW Aug. 12, 8:21 p.m. A resident stated that several men drove to his home, exited their vehicle holding a baseball bat and firearms (undetermined if the guns were airsoft guns or other firearms) and began threatening the resident. The resident advised this incident was the result of an on-going dispute. The resident armed himself with his firearm before confronting the men. One of the men began approaching the resident while swinging the baseball bat. The resident was in fear of bodily harm and pointed his firearm at the man advising him to leave the area. The man continued to advance toward the resident in a threatening manner before all of the men got back into their vehicle and left the area. Ofc. Farr obtained a warrant for the man who was threatening the resident. On Aug. 13, PFC Post served the warrant on the 19-year-old man from Laurel Ridge Road in Vienna. The man was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with Assault.
Suspicious Event -- 200 Block Church Street, NE Aug. 13, 1:34 p.m. A contractor was hired by the Town to remove a tree to make way for construction. A resident in the area was upset that the tree was being removed and threatened the contractor.
Suspicious Event -- W&OD Bike Trail near Park Street and Dominion Road, SE Aug. 13, 3:25 p.m. A citizen was walking in the area of the bike trail when she observed a man in the woods masturbating. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the man.
Destruction of Property -- Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE Aug. 14 between 8:20 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. An employee advised she parked her vehicle in the parking lot. While driving home, she discovered one of her tires had been damaged.
Suspicious Event -- 900 Block Fairway Drive, NE April 14, 7:08 p.m. A resident hired a company to remove a tree in her yard. At the resident’s request, some of the logs were stacked in her yard behind the garage. The resident believes someone may have entered her yard and taken some of the logs.
Found Property -- East Street and Ayr Hill Avenue, NE Aug. 15, 12:08 p.m. A citizen found a car key in the area of Stream Valley Park.
Exposure -- W&OD Bike Trail near Park Terrace Court, SE Aug. 15 between 7:30 a.m. and 8 a.m. A woman came to the police station at 5:06 p.m. to report an incident that occurred earlier in the day. The woman advised she was walking near the W&OD Trail when a man came out from a wooded area and approached her with his pants down, exposing himself to her. The woman stated the man began to follow her until a trash truck approached and he left the area.
CRASHES
300 Block Courthouse Road, SW -- Aug. 7, 6:59 p.m. Vehicle-1 was traveling southbound on Courthouse when a dog ran onto the road and was struck. The dog’s owner was notified.
Wells Fargo Bank -- 212 Maple Ave., East Aug. 9, 9:14 a.m. Vehicle-1 was legally parked in the parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle. The striking vehicle then fled the scene.
100 Block Maple Avenue, West -- Aug. 9, 4:46 p.m. Vehicle-2 was slowing in the travel lane of westbound Maple Avenue. Vehicle-1 struck Vehicle-2 as she was attempting to pass the vehicle and make a turn with the green traffic light. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
700 Block Cottage Street, SW -- Aug. 9, 8:20 p.m. Vehicle-1 was traveling northbound on Cottage Street when she struck Vehicle-2, a legally parked vehicle. Driver-1 fled the scene without providing her information. The owner of Vehicle-2 was able to provide descriptive information of the striking vehicle which allowed officers to identify the driver. Charges are pending in this accident.
100 Block Patrick Street, SE -- Aug. 11, 1:15 p.m. Vehicle-1 was legally parked in the parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle. The striking vehicle then fled the scene.
359 Maple Avenue, East -- Aug. 12, 9:38 a.m. Vehicle-1 was legally parked in the parking lot when it was struck by an unknown vehicle. The striking vehicle then fled the scene.
436 Maple Ave., East -- Aug. 12, 3:30 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling westbound in the left lane of Maple Avenue. Vehicle-1 was exiting the parking lot of 436 Maple Avenue to turn left onto Maple Avenue. As Vehicle-1 entered the roadway, it was struck by Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
Maple Avenue near Niblick Drive, SE Aug. 14, 12:40 p.m. Two vehicles were traveling eastbound in the left lane of Maple Avenue approaching Niblick Drive. Vehicle-2 slowed to a stop in traffic. Vehicle-1 was unable to stop and ran into the rear of Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.
