I write to express my concern with Tim Hugo (R-40), my delegate, over his failure to support basic measures to reduce the risk of gun violence. He has repeatedly refused to answer questions about his positions about gun control. Specifically, he has repeatedly declined to state whether he would support universal background checks and raising the firearm purchase age to 21. In response to a query about the Republican delegates' adjournment of a recent session to address gun violence, Del. Hugo stated that he was wary of “acting rashly.” I do not believe that universal background checks are “rash” and challenge Del. Hugo to explain his position on them and his logic, publicly, to his constituents.
