Lyme disease is one of the most controversial illnesses in the medical community which makes navigating the entire process much more difficult for those affected with it. Most insurance companies only cover the cost of antibiotics for 14-30 days as Lyme has been officially deemed a "short-term illness."
However, there are many long-term patients with disabling complications involving the functionality of the brain, heart and joints. Elena Dolores, a vocalist with Sun Dance Performance Company, was diagnosed with Lyme disease at the age of 11. She is now 23 and has been living with the debilitating conditions of chronic Lyme disease for more than half of her life.
Global Lyme Alliance (GLA) - funded projects have led to unprecedented advances in such areas as prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tick-borne illnesses. https://globallymealliance.org/
