Drivers along the Franconia-Springfield Parkway (Route 289) bridge over Accotink Creek now have better protection from oncoming crashes with the completion of a new concrete median barrier, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. The safety improvement project constructed the barrier in place of the previous concrete median. The $967,000 project, financed with federal and state funding, was completed on time and under budget. The bridge averages 45,000 vehicles a day.
