As we head toward the conclusion of the school year, students from The Nysmith School continue to show that there’s no end in sight when it comes to achieving outstanding results in various academic competitions:
Aaron Joy, a seventh grader from Herndon, recently won his third consecutive National History Bee Regional Championship and will be competing in the National Championship event in Atlanta June 1-2, where he will be joined by fellow Nysmith student Henry Pan (Grade 5/Reston). The History Bee is an annual competition for fifth-eighth grade students from around the country, answering questions written by history teachers, professors and other social studies educators that are split evenly between United States and non-U.S. history.
Nysmith sixth graders Vidhi Sharma (Oak Hill) and Sahithi Atluri (Centreville) won second place in the recent Thomas Jefferson High School Invitational Science Fair, with a project on the effects of sorbents on oil spills. Ishnoor Bakshi (Grade 6/Herndon) received Honorable Mention with her “Spare the Air” project, which dealt with the effect of chemicals on air quality.
