Vienna Police Highlights April 20 – 26, 2018

The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from April 20 – 26, 2018.

INCIDENTS

Animal Case – Quarantine -- 400 Block Center Street, South, April 16, 12 p.m. A resident was transporting her cat to the vet when the cat expressed his objections by biting his owner on the hand. The cat still had to go to the vet for his appointment but was then placed on a routine 10-day quarantine at home.

Animal Case – Quarantine -- 500 Block Woodland Court, NW, April 16, 12 p.m. A resident reported her son was bitten on the leg by a neighbor’s dog. The dog has been placed on a routine 10-day quarantine.

Suspicious Event -- 200 Block Locust Street, SE April 17, 11:15 a.m. An employee cleaning the building reported a suspicious encounter she had with a resident. Officers spoke to the resident regarding the incident. No criminal activity occurred.

Animal Case – Quarantine -- 200 Block Harmony Drive, SW April 19, 12 p.m. A resident was bitten by his cat. The cat was placed on a routine 10-day quarantine.

Assault -- 200 Block Maple Avenue, West April 20, 2:38 p.m. Officers responded to the business for a dispute between the two owners. One of the owners advised the other owner, his ex-girlfriend, assaulted him during the argument. There were no signs of injury and the dispute was a civil matter. Both parties were advised of the warrant process should they decide to pursue charges.

Domestic Dispute -- Outback Steakhouse, 315 Maple Avenue, East, April 20, 8:06 p.m. Officers responded to the parking lot of the restaurant for a report of a fight. The two men involved were father and son. They advised they had been arguing in their vehicle, but no physical altercation had occurred. Both parties agreed to calm down and no further assistance was needed.

Arrest - Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle -- 600 Block Park Street, SE April 21, 9 a.m. A resident advised his son’s friend took his vehicle without permission. The vehicle was recovered later the same day when the man who took the vehicle was involved in an accident in Fairfax County. The 18-year-old man from Locust Street in Vienna was arrested for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle. He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where the magistrate issued a $2500 bond and released the man on his signature.

Assist EMS -- 100 Block Park Street, NE April 21, 9:08 a.m. An officer was approached on the street by a citizen. During their conversation the man began suffering a medical emergency. The officer and another citizen provided assistance to the man until rescue personnel arrived and transported the man to an area hospital for treatment.

Assist EMS -- 100 Block Patrick Street, SE April 21, 7:31 p.m. Officers responded to a residence to assist rescue with a man who had consumed too much alcohol. The man was evaluated by rescue personnel but refused transport to a medical facility. After rescue personnel left the scene the man began to feel worse. The man agreed to be transported to an area hospital by his friend.

Open Door -- 300 Block Broadleaf Drive, NE April 22, 3:15 p.m. A resident found the rear door of their home open and their dog missing. Officers checked the home and found that nothing appeared to have been disturbed and believe that the door may have accidentally been left open. Officers found no evidence of a crime. The dog was located a short time later.

Threats -- Cava, 176 Maple Avenue, West, April 22 between 12:40 p.m. and 3:32 p.m. An employee began receiving threatening texts from an unknown individual on his personal cell phone while he was working.

Arrest – Drunk In Public -- 1200 Block Ware Street, SW April 22, 2:05 p.m. A complaint was received of a man sleeping in front of a residence. The man was located lying half on the sidewalk and half on the roadway. Officer Post detected signs of impairment and placed the man under arrest. The 56-year-old man from Walker Street, SW, Vienna was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where he was charged with Drunk In Public and was to be held until he is sober.

Suspicious Person -- 513 Maple Avenue, West April 22, 3:40 p.m. Officers responded to the report of a suspicious man. The man was located and advised he was trying to get to his friend’s house. The man was provided transportation to a location where he could meet up with his friend.

Animal Case – Quarantine -- Town of Vienna April 22, 7 p.m. A citizen was in a vehicle holding her friend’s dog, while riding through town. While the vehicle was turning the dog began to slide, got scared and bit the woman’s face. The dog resides in Fairfax County. The case is being turned over to their animal control for follow up with the 10-day quarantine.

Suspicious Event -- 300 Block Center Street, North April 22, 7:26 p.m. A resident has had ongoing issues for a few years with a man stopping his vehicle in front of his house, revving the engine and sounding the horn. During the incident today the man began yelling at the resident’s children who were playing outside.

Vehicle Tampering -- 300 Block Park Street, NE Between April 22 at 8 p.m. and April 23 at 8:30 a.m. A resident reported that an unknown person entered her unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the glove box and storage compartments. Nothing appears to have been taken.

Grand Larceny -- 300 Block Park Street, NE Between April 22 at 9 p.m. and April 24 at 10 p.m. A resident advised that an unknown person entered her parked vehicle and stole a purse, clothing, and several other items.

Vehicle Tampering -- 300 Block Park Street, NE Between April 22 at 9:40 p.m. and April 23 at 9:30 a.m. A resident advised it appeared someone entered her unlocked vehicle while it was parked on Church Street next to her driveway. Nothing appears to have been taken.

Vehicle Tampering -- 200 Block Albea Court, NE Between April 22 at 11 p.m. and April 23 at 7 a.m. A resident reported someone entered her unlocked vehicle and rummaged through the contents in the glovebox and console. It did not appear that anything was missing.

Arrest – False Identification -- 300 Maple Avenue, East, April 23, 4:35 a.m. Sgt. Sheeran observed a vehicle with improper equipment and initiated a traffic stop. Upon his interaction with the driver the officer was given a false identification card. After providing proper identification, the 56-year-old man from Valera Court in Vienna was released on a summons charging Possession of False Identification.

Assist EMS -- Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane, SW April 23, 9:22 a.m. Officers responded to the school to assist rescue personnel with a student who had been injured. The juvenile was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries for evaluation.

Arrest – Narcotics Violation -- Navy Federal Credit Union 820 Follin Lane, SE April 24, 11:15 a.m. A security officer reported a narcotics violation involving an employee. MPO Finelli and the security officer spoke to the employee regarding the violation. Upon their interaction with the employee they detected an odor of marijuana. The employee was found to be in possession of a measurable amount of marijuana. The 38-year-old female from Tonka Court in Woodbridge, Va. was released on a summons charging Possession of Marijuana.

Arrest – Assault -- Cottage Street, SW April 25, 9:37 p.m. Officers responded for a dispute at the residence. A tenant advised that she and her landlord had gotten into a fight. When the tenant attempted to call 911 the landlord grabbed her arm preventing her from calling for assistance. After observing injuries to the tenant’s wrist PFC Tremont arrested the landlord. The 26-year-old woman from Cottage Street in Vienna was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center where she was charged with Simple Assault and Obstructing a 911 Call. The woman was released on her signature and a $3000 unsecured bond.

Assault -- Cottage Street, SW April 26, 4:12 p.m. The landlord from April 25 incident advised that when she returned home the previous day, after her arrest, she was assaulted by her roommate. No injuries were observed. The officer advised of the warrant process should she wish to pursue charges.

Trespassing -- Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue, West April 26, 5:04 p.m. The management of the hotel advised they had received several complaints regarding the occupant of one of their rooms and requested assistance in trespassing the man. Officers spoke to the man who agreed to leave the premises and understood he would be charged with trespass if he returned.

CRASHES

200 Block Maple Avenue, West -- April 16, 3:52 p.m. Three vehicles were traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue. Driver-2 stopped abruptly due to traffic. Vehicle-1 was unable to stop in time, striking the rear of Vehicle-2. Vehicle-3 was also unable to stop in time and struck the rear of Vehicle-1.

Maple Avenue at Lewis Street, NW -- April 20, 4:35 p.m. Vehicle-2 was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue in the left lane. Vehicle-1 was traveling eastbound on Maple Avenue, making a left turn onto Lewis Street. Driver-1 thought that traffic had stopped and began to make her turn when she was struck by Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was transported by rescue personnel to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Maple Avenue at Nutley Street, SW -- April 20, 9:40 p.m. Vehicle-1 was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, turning left to go southbound on Nutley Street. Vehicle-2 was traveling east on Maple Avenue. As Vehicle-1 made the turn she collided with Vehicle-2. Driver-1 was issued a summons charging Failure to Pay Full Time and Attention.

Park Street at Church Street, NE -- April 23, 12:50 p.m. Vehicle-1 was traveling northbound on Park Street. Vehicle-2 was traveling southbound on Park Street. Both vehicles stopped at the stop sign for Church Street. Vehicle-1 proceeded into the intersection to turn left onto westbound Church Street at the same time that Vehicle-2 entered the intersection to turn right onto westbound Church causing the vehicles to collide, and causing minor damage to both.
