The seventh grade boys team of St. John the Beloved won the Northern Virginia CYO championship over St. Bernadette of Springfield. The NVJCYO consists of 320 teams with a student participation of approximately 5,000 players.
St. John, based in McLean, finished the season with a record of 12-1. Brendan Mansinne led the team in scoring, followed closely by Jeremy Fuchs and Matty Helfrich. Jon Lindsay led the team in rebounds, followed by Matthew Casler. Jeremy Jeannot, who joined the team this year, had a very strong season also.
In the Championship game, St. John effectively utilized a trapping defense led by Kiernan Mulcahy. Matthew McNeill and Sutton Lochmann did yeoman’s work off the bench all season. The team was coached by Tom Tribone.
