The following summary contains various incidents of general interest as well as vehicular crashes handled by the Town of Vienna, Virginia Police Department from April 6–12, 2018.
INCIDENTS
Grand Larceny -- 1100 Block of Westbriar Drive NE Between March 24, 7 a.m. and April 8, 12:20 p.m. A citizen reported that someone stole some large tools from his unlocked screened in patio.
Fraud -- 300 Block of West Street NW March 31 between 12 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. A resident reported that someone was able to open a credit account using her personal information without her consent.
Fraud -- Park Street April 1, 1 p.m. An employee of a medical facility reported that a virus had been loaded into their computers that impedes access to their records.
Animal Case -- 300 Ainstreet Court NE April 2, 12 p.m. A resident was bitten by her own dog. The dog was placed in timeout which included a 10-day quarantine.
Property Found -- Vienna Community Center, 120 Cherry Street SE, April 5, between 12:01 a.m. and 7:48 a.m. A citizen turned in some found property.
Assault -- Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane SW April 6, 8 a.m. An employee requested police assistance with a disorderly student. The student had already calmed down by the time police arrived at the school.
Domestic Assault -- Church Street April 6, 3:10 p.m. A resident requested police assistance with an assault that had just taken place. Officers responded to the scene and spoke to all parties involved. After the investigation was completed a woman was placed into custody. The 55-year-old woman from Center Street in Vienna was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. A warrant for Assault & Battery on a Family Member was issued and served. The woman was remanded to the custody of the Fairfax County Deputies.
Suspicious Person -- 500 Block of Beulah Road NE April 6, 3:54 p.m. A resident reported a suspicious man who followed his children home from school on several occasions. On April 12 Sgt. Sheeran identified the suspicious man and spoke to him regarding the incident. It was determined that no criminal activity had occurred.
Open Door/Window -- 311 Maple Avenue West April 7, 11:38 a.m. Officers responded to an alarm coming from a business and found that the front door was unlocked. Officers then searched the business with negative results.
Suspicious Event -- Amphora Restaurant 377 Maple Avenue West April 8, 12:50 a.m. An emotionally disturbed person requested police assistance. An officer responded to the scene and determined the woman was not in need of assistance.
Petit Larceny -- 7-11 427 Maple Avenue East April 9, 11:53 a.m. An employee reported that an unknown man came into the store and stole a donation box. Officers responded to the area but did not locate the subject.
Narcotics Violation -- Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane SW April 9, 12:14 p.m. An employee requested police assistance with a few students that had walked out of the school and were refusing to return. Officers located the students and after a brief conversation decided to return to the school. During the incident narcotics were located.
Threats -- Patrick Henry Library 101 Maple Avenue East April 9, 1:26 p.m. An employee reported some suspicious letters they received in the mail.
Suspicious Person -- 200 Block of Cedar Lane SE April 9, 2:03 p.m. A resident stated that she needed police assistance. Officers responded to the residence and after speaking with the emotionally disturbed person they determined she was fine.
Suspicious Event -- The Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue West April 9 between 6 and 8 p.m. A citizen reported being harassed by an emotionally disturbed person.
Suspicious Person -- Domino’s Pizza 331 Maple Avenue East April 9 between 8:40 p.m. and 8:53 p.m. An employee requested police assistance with a person who was reportedly causing a disturbance at the Domino’s store. Officers responded to the business and investigated. It was determined that the man will have to get pizza elsewhere in the future, as he was officially trespassed from this location.
Property Found -- Mathnasium of Tysons 302 Maple Avenue West April 10, 9:58 a.m. A resident turned in some found property.
Juvenile -- Moore Avenue SW April 11, 9:33 p.m. A resident requested an officer respond to assist with his son. Sergeant Kiley responded to the residence and provided his assistance to the person.
Suspicious Vehicle -- The Wolftrap Hotel 430 Maple Avenue West April 12, 1:45 a.m. While investigating a suspicious vehicle the officer learned that one of the occupants had an outstanding felony arrest warrant. A 25-year-old man from Willston Drive in Falls Church was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center. An outstanding warrant for Probation Violation – Felony was served. The man was remanded to the custody of the Fairfax County Deputies.
Suspicious Person -- Cedar Lane School 101 Cedar Lane SW April 12, 2:53 p.m. An employee requested a police officer to assist with a man who was asking bus drivers to give him a ride. Officers located the 36-year old man and advised him that the school buses were only for currently enrolled students. The man left the area without incident.
Property Found -- Cedar Lane Shopping Center 262 Cedar Lane SE April 12, 5:02 p.m. A resident turned in some found property.
CRASHES
Accident -- 500 Maple Avenue West April 6, 2 p.m. Vehicle #1 was travelling east in the 500 block of Maple Avenue West when Driver #1 failed to properly engage the brake to her vehicle to avoid impacting the rear of Vehicle #2 which was stopped in the same traffic lane. Consequently, Vehicle #2 was pushed forward and impacted the rear of Vehicle #3 which was stopped directly ahead because of the red light.
Accident -- 118 Park Street SE April 6, 4:38 p.m. Vehicle #1 was turning left from the parking of 118 Park Street SE lot onto Park Street SE and struck Pedestrian #1 who was crossing the street and was not using a crosswalk.
Accident -- 400 Lawyers Road NW April 7 ,1:35 p.m. Vehicle #1 was travelling in the 400 block of Lawyers Road NW when Driver #1 stated he went off road and struck the right curb then a utility pole causing major damage to the right front of the car. Driver #1 does not recall how he lost control of the vehicle. All the air bags were deployed, and no injuries were reported. There was slight damage to the utility pole. Dominion energy was notified.
Accident -- 400 Maple Avenue West April 7, 1:57 p.m. Vehicle #1 was traveling East in the 400 block of Maple Avenue West. Vehicle #1 stopped in the center turn lane, in order to make a left turn into a parking lot. Vehicle #2 was traveling west in the right lane of the 400 block of Maple Avenue West. Driver #1 advised that traffic stopped in the left lane of the westbound traffic, which she was attempting to cross by making a left turn. Driver #1 stated that the stopped driver in the left lane waved at her to go ahead and make her turn. Vehicle #1 attempted to successfully make the left turn, but was struck by Vehicle #2, which had the right of way.
Accident with Injury -- Follin Lane SE/Echols Street SE April 11, 7 a.m. Vehicle #1 was traveling southbound on Follin Lane SE and rear ended Vehicle #2 which was stopped due to a red traffic signal.
Accident -- Maple Avenue East / Follin Lane SE April 12, 1:20 p.m. Vehicle #1 was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue East at the intersection with Follin Lane SE and swerved off the road to avoid stopped traffic and struck a sign, a utility box for a traffic signal, private property landscaping, and a traffic signal pole.
