Robin Griffin, formerly of Reston and now living in Centreville, has been doing live comedy in the Northern Virginia region since the summer of 2017. Griffin uses the stage name "Robin Rex."
Things have been going well for the comedian, who is also a teacher and mom. However, after hearing about the recent school shootings, Griffin wanted to do something to make a difference. She looked at her new business venture, FunnyFriend Productions, a booking company for comedians in the District of Columbia, Maryland, and Virginia.
Since comedians in the company, as well as Griffin, perform every second Saturday in Reston at Café Montmartre, 1625 Washington Plaza, Lake Anne, Griffin announced she would donate a portion of each ticket sold for the Saturday, April 14, 8-10 p.m show to the local chapter of Moms Demand Action, a campaign of Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund. According to its website, the organization was created "…to demand action from legislators, state and federal; companies; and educational institutions to establish common-sense gun reforms."
The headliner for the fundraiser is Rob Maher, regional winner of Comedy Central’s Up Next Competition. Griffin will present the donation check to Moms Demand Action during the evening performance. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at www.brownpapertickets.com; search Funnyfriend, or with cash at the door. Call Café Montmartre 703-904-8080 for a table reservation.
